Everyday your backdrop will be an iconic Scottish championship links stretching over 7000 yards from the back tees. An original Willie Campbell design dating back to 1891 and redesigned in 2018 by David J. Russell to modern championship standards, this course is now designed to be played in all conditions.
The perfect links terrain is set on unique dunelands bordering on the magnificent Laggan Bay in Islay.
As golf course greenkeeper at The Machrie you will play a crucial
role in maintaining the quality and playability of the golf course.
You will work closely with the Course Manager, Head Greenkeeper and Greens Team and your responsibilities could include all turf, landscape and dune maintenance of golf and customer facing areas in line with championship links standards, customer and ownership expectations.
There are a mix of permanent and temporary contracts available.
What your days could look like:
* Mowing greens, approaches, fairways, and roughs.
* Fertilizing, aerating, and overseeing pest control measures
(subject to spraying certifications).
* Managing bunkers, rakes, course furnishings, and signage.
* Performing routine maintenance and minor repairs on
machinery.
* Daily golf course set-up as defined by Course Manager/Head
Greenkeeper
* Divot repairs/fillings on maintained turf areas where and
when required.
* Monitoring and adjusting irrigation systems, including
sprinklers and pumps
* Iimplementing course developments as agreed with the Course
Manager/Owners/Course Designer/Architect/Golf General Manager.
* Supervising apprentice and seasonal staff.
* General daily care of all golf
course machinery and storage facilities
Job skills and requirements:
* One year of greenkeeping
experience is preferred.
* A recognised greenkeeping
qualification or be training towards one.
* Ability to operate cutting
equipment and perform course set-up procedures.
* Minor machinery maintenance
skills
* Strong attention to detail
and commitment to high-quality standards
* Good time management and
teamwork abilities.
* Ability to work under
pressure
* Ability to work on own
initiative
