Job Description:
Company Description
W I T H I N [ U ] is a neurotechnology company based in London, developing non-invasive light-based sensors, soundwave AI, and bioelectrical mapping to decode and optimise human health, awareness, and cognition. Our goal is to create real-time interfaces that interact directly with the body's native intelligence — transforming how we understand and interface with biological systems.
Role Description
We are currently hiring five (5) to eight (8) Bioelectric Mechanical Engineers to join our existing BMEs and core hardware R&D team. Each engineer will specialise in a key aspect of our wearable biosensor systems — from mechanical housing and miniaturised form factors to signal optimisation and scalable light-based integration.
This role is ideal for engineers passionate about bridging biology and mechanical systems to pioneer the future of real-time neural interfaces and cognitive signal mapping. You’ll collaborate closely with AI researchers, biomedical engineers, and product leads to design high-fidelity devices that interface with the skin and yield meaningful physiological and cognitive data for AI-based health systems.
As part of our core neurotech team, you will be responsible for tasks related to mechanical engineering, machine design, computer-aided design (CAD), and sensor-focused research and development (R&D).
Role Overview:
We are seeking highly skilled and imaginative Bioelectric Mechanical Engineers to further our development of advanced non-invasive biosensing hardware. These individuals will work at the intersection of mechanical engineering, biophysics, and sensor innovation — contributing to the next generation of wearable systems that decode neural and biological signals through light and bioelectric interaction.
You will collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to engineer scalable, ergonomic devices optimised for signal integrity, comfort, and precision — enabling real-time data capture for AI-driven health and cognition platforms.
These five engineers will each lead a specialised subsystem of the platform, working alongside specialists who support the theoretical and signal-layer foundation through advanced work in biophysics and mathematics.
This role may involve travel to our additional R&D sites to collaborate on extended laboratory development and platform refinement.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Design and prototype wearable bioelectric and light-based sensors using precision mechanical and materials engineering.
2. Apply CAD tools to develop mechanical systems optimised for comfort, signal accuracy, and durability.
3. Collaborate with electrical and biomedical engineers to integrate mechanical housing with optoelectronic and signal processing components.
4. Conduct research, testing, and refinement of skin-contact sensor interfaces.
5. Manage R&D cycles, including documentation, iteration, and alignment with regulatory and manufacturing requirements.
Qualifications
1. Proven experience in Mechanical Engineering and Machine Design, ideally for wearables or biointerfaces.
2. Proficiency in Computer-Aided Design (CAD) tools such as SolidWorks, Fusion 360, or equivalent.
3. Strong background in materials selection for bio-compatible and skin-contact applications.
4. Experience with R&D processes, including prototype-to-production transition.
5. Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, or a related field.
6. Experience or deep interest in bioelectric systems, biomedical sensors, or bioelectronics is a strong plus.
7. Comfortable working in a fast-paced, research-oriented environment with cross-functional teams.
We’re also hiring for adjacent roles in our neurotech division, including:
* Embedded Systems Engineers – Real-time firmware and sensor integration
* Biomedical Signal Processing Engineers – Signal filtering and data transformation
* Sr. Neural Data Scientists – Mapping cognitive and conscious states from biosignals
* Product Systems Integrator – Leading full-stack prototyping across hardware and AI
