Job responsibilities
Microbiology consultants provide regular input into ICU, HDU, NICU and Haematology by attending regular ward rounds and supporting established MDTs.
A microbiology consultant is attending a weekly Diabetic Foot MDT outpatient clinic.
OPAT is provided by the Surgical Medical Acute Rehabilitation Team in collaboration with district nurses. Microbiology consultants provide continuous support throughout the week and attend weekly MDT/virtual ward rounds.
Antimicrobial stewardship ward rounds are attended by the antimicrobial pharmacist with support from the antimicrobial lead or other consultants. All consultants are part of the Antimicrobial Stewardship Group.
This is a replacement position to join a group of three consultant medical microbiologists who together provide a comprehensive clinical, laboratory and infection prevention control service to the hospital.
Person Specification
Qualifications
* Full and specialist registration (and a licence to practise) with the General Medical Council (GMC) (or eligible for registration within six months of interview)
* Applicants that are UK trained must also be a holder of a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT), or be within six months of award of CCT by date of interview.
* Applicants that are non-UK trained will be required to show evidence of equivalence to the UK CCT.
* FRCPath or equivalent
Knowledge
* Ability to manage infections in specialist units (ICU/HDU, NICU, Haematology), Orthopaedics, Diabetic Foot or OPAT
Experience
* Experience of working as a clinical microbiologist in an NHS Trust at registrar level or above
* Experience of ward-based clinical liaison
* Experience of developing and implementing antimicrobial guidelines
* Experience in Infection Prevention & Control
