Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) Practitioner
Location: Birchwood School, Cardiff
Salary: Starting From £24,015.75 (Term time only), FTE £30,459.00 (Open to Job Share)
Working Hours: 37.5 hours per week
About Us:
Orbis Education & Care, Birchwood School in Cardiff, offers specialist education and support for children with complex needs, including autism and learning disabilities. We are looking for a passionate PBS Practitioner to help improve the quality of life for the children through evidence-based Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) strategies, including working with early years children.
About the Role:
As a PBS Practitioner, you will support and guide staff teams to implement Positive Behaviour Support for the children, including early years. Your role will include conducting functional assessments, developing PBS plans, and providing direct and indirect interventions. You will also provide training and consultation to staff, families, and multidisciplinary teams to ensure the best support for children.
Key Responsibilities:
Specialist Assessments: Conduct behavioural assessments using structured observations and other methods to develop effective PBS plans tailored to each child, including early years.
Behavioural Interventions: Create and implement evidence-based strategies to address challenging behaviours and promote positive outcomes.
Consultation and Training: Provide expert advice and training to staff, families, and other professionals on PBS strategies and positive behaviour management.
Collaborative Working: Work with multidisciplinary teams (MDTs) to develop and review PBS plans, ensuring a coordinated approach to care and education.
Monitoring and Reporting: Monitor and evaluate intervention progress and provide professional reports.
Risk Management: Conduct risk assessments to ensure PBS plans incorporate safety and well-being strategies.
Promote Person-Centred Care: Lead by example, fostering a person-centred approach and a positive environment for both staff and children.
Cultural Leadership: Encourage a culture of respect and proactive management of challenging behaviours.
Qualifications & Experience:
Essential:
Experience working with children with learning disabilities, autism, and complex behavioural needs.
In-depth knowledge of PBS theory and its practical application.
At least 3 years’ experience in services supporting children with challenging behaviours, ideally in education or residential settings.
Ability to conduct functional assessments and develop PBS plans.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with experience working in multidisciplinary teams.
Full UK driving licence and access to your own vehicle for work-related travel.
Desirable:
Enrolment or completion of a PBS qualification, or relevant qualifications such as a Diploma in PBS/ABA.
Experience in delivering training on PBS and behavioural management.
Knowledge of best practices and guidelines for managing challenging behaviours, including restraint reduction.
