Job Description & Specification Job Title: IT Server Officer Reporting to: IT Systems Manager Location: The post holder will be required to work in any of the College's buildings as necessary and as determined by business needs. Annual Leave: 24 days per annum Pension: Local Government Pension Scheme, EE contribution 6.5%, ER contribution 19% Salary: £31,586 - £35,235 per annum Subject to satisfactory completion of duties for two years & attendance at identified training, it would be expected that the post holder would progress to a Senior Analyst position, graded at Band 6 (£37,035 - £39,513 per annum). Criteria Either hold a Level 4 qualification or equivalent in a relevant discipline Plus at least three years' experience in IT server systems support and maintenance. Or at least five years' relevant experience in IT server systems support and maintenance. Or hold an Microsoft MCSA in Windows Server, SQL Server, Cloud Platform or equivalent plus one years' experience in IT server systems support and maintenance. Applicants must have GCSE English Language and GCSE Math's grade A - C or equivalent. Main Duties & Responsibilities Technology Operations To ensure that all changes to College server and cloud systems are carried out in accordance with the relevant change management policy and process. Responsible for the configuration, management and maintenance of the College's server and cloud systems in accordance with College requirements and agreed service levels - server and cloud systems to include, but not be limited to: Physical and virtual server systems both Windows and Linux based VMWare and Hyper-V virtual environments Storage SAN and NAS systems Storage network switches Cloud based infrastructures, including Office 365, Azure, etc. Application Services Data Backup/Archive Systems MS Windows services, e.g. Active Directory, Print Management, Group Policy Management, Web Services, etc. Federation Services Automatic Image and Software Deployment systems System & Network Security Systems To participate in documenting and implementing procedures for deploying, configuring, managing and maintaining server and cloud systems and to apply these in accordance with College policy and best practice as defined by ITIL To perform proactive monitoring on the quality of service provided by the College's server and cloud systems and take necessary action to prevent degradation of agreed service levels To perform regular performance analysis to support capacity planning and inform server and cloud system design decisions To analyse and generate reports on the use of the College's server and cloud systems, agree any immediate actions required with the IT Systems Manager and use the information to inform capacity planning and decision making To generate and maintain an appropriate inventory of server equipment to support the maintenance of equipment and anticipated demand within the College's Service desk system To ensure that appropriate procedures are maintained in relation to the use of the College's server and cloud systems To ensure that IT facilities, e.g., comms rooms, IT stores etc., are maintained in good order Solution design, implementation & testing Support the delivery of projects to pilot, develop and implement new server and cloud systems as directed by the IT Systems Manager To install, configure and test both hardware and software for server and cloud use, ensuring that all such work is in keeping with the strategic development of the College IT Infrastructure To maintain a server and a cloud environment to enable the testing and piloting of new tools and applications without impacting on the College's production systems. To liaise with suppliers and contractors where necessary through the effective installation, configuration and testing of new server and cloud systems To support the smooth introduction of new service solutions to the IT Service Delivery function, ensuring that appropriate service levels are agreed, and that the IT Service Delivery staff can fulfil their responsibilities safely and effectively To ensure that the introduction of any new service solution is carried out in accordance with the relevant change management policy and process. Request fulfilment To contribute to the development of SLAs for server and cloud system related service requests To ensure that service requests relating to the technical configuration of College server and cloud systems are responded to within the agreed SLAs Security Management To assist with the implementation of appropriate security controls for the College's server and cloud infrastructures under the direction of the IT Systems Manager, e.g.: configuring security policies on the College's server and cloud systems implementing server and cloud access control and management implementing specific server and cloud system security controls To perform daily monitoring of the server and cloud systems and the controls that are in place to ensure that the confidentiality, integrity and availability of College server and cloud services are maintained To perform security analysis and review the output of the analysis to detect threats to the security of the College server and cloud systems To escalate threats or breaches immediately to line management and to identify and take appropriate and timely action to manage the breach or mitigate the threat Configuration and asset management To support the IT Systems Manager in the development and maintenance of accurate asset inventories for server equipment To assist the IT Service Delivery Team in mapping services to configuration items to understand key dependencies and facilitate impact analysis of changes To manage configuration items to minimize incidents and facilitate rollbacks to previous states Vendor/supplier management Responsible for the day-to-day relationship with suppliers of the College's server and cloud systems, raising service-related issues and managing these to a satisfactory conclusion To attend periodic service review meetings to discuss supplier performance during the period and agree any remedial actions IT capability development & knowledge management To maintain IT operating procedures and other necessary documentation and records for all College server and cloud systems To maintain comprehensive documentation on College server and cloud systems configuration using appropriate tools To support the IT Systems Manager in ensuring that the College's disaster recovery plan is kept up to date and tested to reflect any changes in server or cloud infrastructure that might impact on disaster recovery General To provide support and assistance to the wider IT Team as and when required To contribute to the achievement of the College's mission, values and strategic directions Participate in the College performance appraisal system Adhere to general standards of conduct embodied in College policies To implement and embed the College's equality and diversity policies and respond to its equality and diversity duties as they relate to all stakeholders To undertake such other relevant duties as may be reasonably expected of the post holder Duties may change as the College develops, therefore the person appointed will be expected to be flexible in relation to duties performed, subject to consultation.
