Overview of the role:
Reporting into the Lead EDS Engineer, the successful candidate will join a highly focused and passionate team leading the delivery of electrical / electronic engineering across the business. The role is within the Group Electrics & Controls Excavator team which has responsibility to ensure that all new JCB Product programmes meet the required technical deliverables against required timing.
The role requires technical knowledge, hands-on experience, project delivery process understanding, and the ability to work with diverse teams to ensure delivery in line with product excellence. Located at the manufacturing site, the successful candidate will be able to touch and feel the product to ensure the design level requirements are appropriately translated into machine operation and function.
The role will be responsible for delivering the concept, design, development and deployment of new electrical & electronic systems into the Excavator product range. Working as part of the EDS engineering team, you will support the definition, interpretation and development of the customer and system level requirements into a CAD environment. This role will involve architecture design across a range of products with rationalisation and commonality one of the main objectives, whilst pushing new technologies and feature content to enhance and satisfy the customer requirements.
As an Electrical CAD Engineer you will provide technical support to the delivery of the system design. You will own the delivery of the harness and all related electrical/electronic components from concept through to SOP and beyond. Additionally, you will be responsible for driving a consistent standard of harness routing and parts release, liaising with the India team to deliver the Electrical components and Assemblies. Electrical background is not mandatory. Mechanical Engineers with a strong CAD background will also be considered.
Your Responsibilities:
1. Translate the ‘voice of the customer’ (internal and external) into a list of clear concise requirements and deliverables.
2. Selection of correct hardware platform(s) to deliver the technical solution, considering environmental and cost targets.
3. Thrive in a fast agile environment, developing prototype solutions to validate proof of concept ideas.
4. Creation of drawing release plan to satisfy delivery of the project timing/requirements.
5. Coordination of 3rd party support vendors when releasing new components.
6. Be able to read electronic schematic diagrams and their electrical wiring diagram counterpart.
7. Work inline with industry standard development techniques ie clipping, bend radius of harnesses.
8. Help coordinate parts to support builds, ensuring latest design revisions are appraised at the earliest opportunity.
9. Sound record keeping techniques, of all designs, revisions and related updates.
10. Drive re-use of components and approaches.
11. Support of cause and effect analysis – risk assessments, FMEA, 8D, Ishikawa/fishbone.
About you:
1. Qualified to HND/Degree level in an electronic/software based technology discipline or equivalent experience.
2. Experience within Tier 1 or OE sectors (on highway or off highway) with CAD.
3. Experience of ECN release and checking to drive consistent standards through the global team.
4. Experience in Siemens Teamcentre, creating parts and releasing into the database following good practice on naming conventions and smart numbering.
5. Comfortable working with various electronic lab tools ie Spectrum analyser, Oscilloscope, Signal Generators, DC power supplies.
6. Comfortable working with serial tools, bluetooth and over the air diagnostics.
7. A good understanding of design verification processes (DVPSOR).
8. An ability to read and digest complex information relating to internal and external procedures and sign-off requirements.
9. Comfortable supporting and completing cause and effect analysis – Risk Assessments, FMEA, 8D, Ishikawa/fishbone.
