Working 36.5 hours per week Join the Birmingham Food Revolution We have an opportunity to join our exciting Food System Team in a Senior Public Health Officer role to lead key projects to improve the city’s food system, and to lead key parts of the Birmingham Food System Strategy implementation. This is a high-profile area of work which aims to tackle food system challenges including nutrition, food insecurity, sustainability, food production, food supply chains, food economy and health. This full-time permanent post will be part of the Food System Team within the Healthy Behaviours and Communities sub-division of the Public Health Division. We work with a wide range of stakeholders to improve the food system and health and wellbeing of citizens, including internal directorates, public sector and private sector partners, organisations across the food system and the third sector. The team you will be joining are engaged in a dynamic and diverse range of work. This unique and exciting role will provide the opportunity to apply research into practice in order to tackle some of our biggest food system challenges, including food insecurity, affordable food, supply chains, food partnerships, nutrition and sustainability. The role will also give the post holder a way develop experience across the Public Health Skills and Knowledge Framework (PHSKF). The Senior Officer will report to the Food System Service Lead in the Public Health Division on a series of both structured projects and reactive pieces of work that are designed to have an impact on the health and wellbeing of individuals in Birmingham, and to improve our city’s food system. They may be responsible for line managing an Officer and supporting students and interns and may also be responsible for matrix-managing Graduate Officers and support Officers in the team in the future. This post will manage and be managed according to the Council’s Matrix Management principles demonstrating a flexible working approach. By managing projects from initiation to completion, there will be opportunities to demonstrate personal impact and outcomes. This role involves taking a lead on key projects within the Food System Team including: Managing the delivery of the multi-stakeholder city-wide food partnership, sub-groups and meetings Engaging with city networks Managing the delivery of services and projects Ensuring grant funded projects are delivered and the deliverables and reporting requirements are adhered to Developing and delivering the Birmingham Food Revolution communication and dissemination plan Engaging and influencing stakeholders at all levels to support the delivery of the Birmingham Food System Strategy and Food Revolution The post holder will be responsible for directly supervising staff and the operational delivery of projects as required Keeping up to date with local, national and international policy and research Supporting, conducting and scoping out research, innovation and solutions for target food system topics Developing and commissioning initiatives to strengthen the Food Revolution delivery and impact Managing commissioning arrangements Building and strengthening relationships with communities, third sector, universities, NHS and the food industry Developing and delivering key areas of the Birmingham Food System Strategy Action Plan for 2022-2030 The responsibilities and projects will change and evolve based on emerging priorities and business needs and team capacity.
