About the role
As the Group Property Director at Halfords, you’ll lead a high-performing team managing a portfolio of over 1000 properties, with an overall occupancy cost of £140m. You will oversee key property management functions including portfolio strategy, space and range planning, investment activities, and lease management to support Halfords' business objectives. Your strategic oversight will ensure that our retail stores and consumer garages are in optimal locations, appropriately sized, and cost-effective.
This senior leadership role will involve managing a £140m operational expenditure and £20m capital expenditure, while driving business growth through property investments such as site acquisitions, refurbishments, and rebranding. You’ll collaborate with the Executive team and key stakeholders across finance, operations, and commercial to ensure the estate aligns with both current and future business needs.
What We're Looking For:
We're seeking someone who is ideally MRICS qualified with significant experience in property management, particularly within the construction, retail, or commercial real estate sectors. You should have a proven track record of leading and developing high-performing teams while managing a large, multi-site property portfolio. A deep understanding of leasehold portfolios, property investment, and both macro and micro space planning. You’ll need to be able to align property strategy with broader business goals and adapt to changing customer trends. Exceptional negotiation and communication skills are critical, as is the ability to influence at the board level and engage stakeholders effectively. Strong commercial acumen is also key, with experience in managing complex budgets and driving portfolio investment activities.
