You will need to have your own transport as we are based in a rural location between Matlock and Ashbourne.
Job Purpose:
To ensure the effective management of Safety, Health, Environment, and Quality (SHEQ) standards within mineral processing operations. The role focuses on aligning practices with ISO standards, especially ISO 45001:2018 for occupational health and safety, ensuring regulatory compliance, mitigating risks, and driving continuous improvement across safety, environmental, and quality systems.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Safety and Health Management (ISO 45001:2018)
1. Maintain and develop an Occupational Health and Safety Management System (OHSMS) aligned with ISO 45001:2018 requirements.
2. Conduct gap analyses to ensure ongoing compliance with ISO 45001:2018 standards and recommend improvements.
3. Identify and assess hazards in mineral processing activities (e.g., heavy machinery, hazardous chemicals, working at height).
4. Develop & maintain risk assessments across all aspects of the site.
5. Lead investigations into safety incidents or near-misses and implement corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).
6. Promote a proactive safety culture by engaging employees at all levels and fostering ownership of safety responsibilities.
7. Develop and oversee emergency preparedness plans, including drills for scenarios such as chemical spills, equipment failure, or fire.
2. Environmental Management (ISO 14001:2015)
1. Maintain an Environmental Management System (EMS) aligned with ISO 14001:2015.
2. Oversee compliance with environmental legislation related to waste management, emissions control, and resource conservation in mineral processing.
3. Manage environmental impact assessments and develop action plans to mitigate risks related to waste, resource use, & energy.
4. Lead initiatives to minimise the plant’s environmental footprint, such as recycling, energy efficiency programs, and pollution prevention measures.
5. Ensure packaging waste compliance.
3. Quality Assurance (ISO 9001:2015)
1. Develop, implement, and manage a Quality Management System (QMS) based on ISO 9001:2015.
2. Ensure processed mineral products meet client specifications and industry standards.
3. Conduct regular internal and external quality audits and resolve non-conformities.
4. Collaborate with production teams to optimise workflows and maintain consistent product quality.
4. Training and Awareness
1. Plan and deliver comprehensive SHEQ training programs tailored to the mineral processing industry, emphasising ISO 45001:2018, ISO 14001, and ISO 9001.
2. Enhance employee awareness of SHEQ standards and responsibilities through workshops, toolbox talks, and onboarding sessions.
3. Stay updated on changes in ISO standards, legislation, and industry best practices and communicate these to relevant teams.
5. Reporting and Compliance
1. Prepare and present regular SHEQ performance reports, including KPIs related to safety incidents, environmental impact, and product quality.
2. Maintain detailed documentation for ISO certifications, audits, and compliance activities.
3. Liaise with regulatory authorities and external auditors to ensure compliance with health, safety, environmental, and quality requirements.
6. Leadership and Collaboration
1. Lead cross-functional teams to address SHEQ challenges and drive improvement projects.
2. Work closely with engineering, production, and maintenance teams to integrate SHEQ considerations into operational planning.
3. Foster a workplace culture of accountability and excellence in SHEQ practices.
Key Requirements:
Education and Qualifications
1. Certifications such as ISO 45001:2018 Lead Auditor, NEBOSH, or equivalent qualifications.
2. Additional certifications in ISO 14001:2015 and ISO 9001:2015 are advantageous.
Experience
1. At least 5 years of SHEQ management experience in the mineral processing, mining, or heavy industry sector.
2. Proven experience implementing and maintaining ISO 45001:2018, ISO 14001:2015, and ISO 9001:2015 systems.
3. Strong background in conducting risk assessments, audits, and incident investigations.
Skills
1. In-depth knowledge of ISO 45001:2018 and its application to high-risk industrial environments.
2. Excellent problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills.
3. Proficiency in SHEQ reporting.
4. Ability to lead and motivate cross-functional teams.
