Job overview
Applications are invited for the post of Consultant in Hepatology at Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust. This is an exciting new post and offers the opportunity to join a dynamic cohesive and progressive hepatology and gastroenterology department.
Main duties of the job
The appointee will be fully trained in the management of patients with acute and chronic Hepatology conditions, including transplant experience, and in managing acute GI emergencies, including GI bleeding. They will contribute to the Acute Gastroenterology on call service and contribute to weekend working to deliver daily specialist Hepatology review for our inpatients. The full-time post is based on a 10 Programmed Activity (PA) job plan with time in lieu for out of hours working.

The NUH Hepatology service is supported by 16 specialist nurses (10 WTE) with areas of expertise that include Haemochromatosis, End of Life Care, Liver Transplant, Stable Cirrhosis, Viral Hepatitis, HCC, Pancreatic Cysts, Paracentesis, Neuro-endocrine tumours and Hepatology related education.
Detailed job description and main responsibilities
NUH is one of the largest tertiary NHS Trusts in the country and is a referral centre for the Mid Trent Cancer Network, which covers a population of over 2 million. The successful applicant will join a team of 20 Gastroenterologists and 13 Hepatologists, fully supported by specialist nurses and advanced diagnostic services. This post will support the current consultant hepatology team and help deliver a responsive community, local, and tertiary hepatology service including out-reach clinics in Lincolnshire and the well-established joint liver clinic with Addenbrooke’s Hospital transplant team.
Person specification
Professional Registration
* MBBS/MBCH and MRCP
* Eligible for entry on GMC Specialist Register or within 6 months of receipt of CCT in Gastro at time of interview
* Full GMC Registration with a License to Practice
* Eligibility to reside and work in the UK
* Teaching qualification e.g. Masters/ Diploma in medical education
Clinical Skills/Experience
* 5 years supervised training in an appropriate StR or equivalent training programme, together with a high standard of clinical skill
* Ability to offer expert clinical opinion on all Gastroenterology problems
* Ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team and share clinical responsibilities
* Completion of recognised subspecialty training within Gastroenterology.
Teaching and Audit
* Experience of and commitment to, teaching undergraduates and postgraduates.
* Ability to innovate and develop new technology/methods where appropriate
