We have a great opportunity here at Southern Water for an Emergency Planning Manager!
The overall purpose of this role is to develop and shape our emergency planning, preparedness and resilience within operations and to identify risks and respond to emergency situations as necessary.
Additionally, the successful candidate would work on projects and programmes of work that will enhance our capability to respond to incidents and support in an on-call role, organising the provision of alternative water
to our customers.
We also offer hybrid working where you will be expected to work 2/3 days in the Durrington office, and you can work from home the other 2 days. The office is close to train stations and bus routes, so don’t worry about transport!
The office has a great canteen, and, in the summer, you could have lunch outside overlooking the pond.
Accountabilities:
1. To work with the Resilience and Emergency Planning Manager in delivering and maintaining our operational strategies for emergency planning and business continuity, improving our preparedness for, and resilience to, incidents.
2. Lead a team of Emergency Planners to support you in the completion of your strategies, tasks and objectives.
3. To prepare relevant emergency plans and operational procedures and to maintain, review and update these documents as necessary, ensuring that they are integrated with key stakeholders within the business.
4. To identify any relevant risks and hazards that may impact on our operations and take the necessary actions in response to those risks.
5. Build and manage Southern Water’s relationships with key regulators and stakeholders at a tactical level. Develop joint strategies and plans with multi-agency partners and support ongoing improvements.
6. Lead on projects and programmes for the Resilience and Emergency Planning Manager.
7. To manage, oversee and deliver an annual exercise programme to ensure our plans are tested, improved and fit for purpose.
8. To support with internal training and debrief sessions relating to Southern Water Incident Response and operational competency.
9. To monitor and improve Southern Water’s preparedness to respond to incidents, ensuring that we are compliant with our regulators and meet requirements.
Knowledge/Experience:
10. Previous Emergency Planning experience. Writing and reviewing emergency plans / operational plans / policy documents.
11. Knowledge of the Water Industry and regulations, including the Civil Contingencies Act 2004, the Water Industry Act 1991 and the Security and Emergency Measures Direction 2022.
12. Risk identification and management, including creating plans to mitigate known risks.
13. Previous experience of responding to incidents or managing spontaneous and unpredictable events.
14. Leadership experience. Coaching, mentoring and developing a team.
15. Experience in project management and completing improvements to processes.
16. An ability to build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
17. An ability to work from your own initiative and to deliver a high level of service.
18. Able to effectively problem solve and work under pressure, including when responding to incidents.
19. Proficient in Microsoft Office systems.
