Our friendly dispensary team at Chapel Allerton hospital work hard to supply medicines to outpatients and inpatients on the wards. You will be working with pharmacists, technicians, and our ward teams to provide an efficient service to outpatients.
The role requires an NVQ Level 2 in Pharmacy Services and previous pharmacy experience.
This role is full time hours, 37.5 hours Monday to Friday 8.45am - 5.15pm.
All staff contributes to an 8pm evening shift every 5 weeks and a Saturday or Sunday on a 1 in 4 rota on the St James or LGI site.
Main duties of the job
This role is varied and consists of all aspects of labelling and dispensing medicines, including controlled drugs, outpatient prescriptions, discharge prescriptions, homecare prescriptions and inpatient orders.
There will also be some reception work, counselling patients, answering the phone, dealing with reception and admin type tasks.
Some stock maintenance and ordering of medicines will also be included in this role including receiving stock in and date checking.
We provide a service to all the wards on the Chapel Allerton site so part of the role will be working with our automated systems (robots) on the wards, and checking patient own medicines.

Job responsibilities
JOB PURPOSE
Perform a variety of pharmacy support duties, some of which may be patient facing. These include stock management, dispensing and/or preparation of medicines in a designated area of MMPS which may include dispensary, aseptic facilities, warehouse and dispensary support rooms at ward level. Day to day supervision of Pharmacy Services Assistants and Pharmacy Porters to ensure service delivery in relevant area of MMPS.
There may also be distribution duties including the movement of goods and a requirement for general housekeeping duties.
JOB DIMENSIONS
The post holder will not have any line management responsibilities. They will provide induction and training for Pharmacy Services Assistants and Pharmacy Porters and other staff as required.
The post holder will be required to work evenings, weekends and Bank Holidays on a rostered basis.
The post holder will be required to travel to other sites for briefing meetings, training sessions and to support service provision.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
* Level 2 Apprenticeship / Pharmacy Services Assistant or NVQ level 2 in Pharmacy Services or Pharmacy Manufacturing Course.
* Experience of working in a community or hospital pharmacy.
* Knowledge of procedures of own working area following on the job training.
* Knowledge of good customer care.
* Experience of stock control systems.
* Must have excellent verbal communication skills.
* Ability to work accurately under pressure and follow standard operating procedures.
* Good literacy and numeracy skills.
* Ability to interpret written instructions.
* Ability to supervise and give instruction to Pharmacy Services Assistants and Porters and other staff as required.
