Looking for something a little different? We invite applications for three Clinical Teaching Fellow posts within our friendly and enthusiastic undergraduate teaching team based on the doorstep of the magnificent Lake District.
The undergraduate team at the Cumberland Infirmary are responsible for delivering teaching to around one hundred students spanning years one through to five of the Newcastle University MBBS course.
The posts will commence in August 2025 for a fixed term period of 12 months with the option to extend for a further 12 months subject to negotiation with the Undergraduate Programme Director and will be based at the Cumberland Infirmary, Carlisle.
The hours of duty will be 40hrs/week with no out-of-hours or weekend working.
The posts offer an exciting opportunity for a forward thinking doctor with a strong interest in medical education, plus you will have the opportunity to undertake the PG Cert in Medical Education.
Main duties of the job
Teaching is a major component of the role with time in the post being divided between undergraduate education and a specialty area negotiated with the candidate at the time of commencement in post.
The timetable will necessarily remain flexible as the teaching commitment varies throughout the academic year. However, overall, eight sessions (half days) per week will be allocated to teaching or teaching preparation and two sessions to the postholder's chosen specialty.
Job responsibilities
As a Clinical Teaching Fellow at NCIC you will have a responsibility to help co-ordinate and deliver the Newcastle Undergraduate Medical Education Programme together with other members of the Undergraduate Team.
As the courses are very patient-centred and practical in nature, you will be required to assist in the recruitment and co-ordination of patients for teaching sessions. You will participate in teaching medical students across all years of the MBBS course.

Qualifications
* Current Full Registration with the General Medical Council
* Evidence of Completion of the UK Foundation Programme
* Teach the Teachers Course
* PG Cert Med Ed or equivalent
Experience
* At least 2yrs of UK postgraduate clinical experience
* Experience of recent direct patient care
* Experience of recent working in NHS
* Experience in Teaching
Communication Skills
* Excellent interpersonal and communication skills - verbal and written as evidenced by job application and presentation skills at interview
Clinical Skills
* Evidence of good clinical skills as evidenced by references and interview
Personality and Disposition
* Ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team
* Ability to organise workload efficiently
* Ability to be self-directed
* Enthusiastic, problem solving approach to tasks
