Rotherham Doncaster and South Humber NHSFT
The post holder will be working with a large multidisciplinary team of doctors, nurses, social workers, psychologists, psychotherapists, and creative therapists. The service has a CAMHS Learning Disability pathway, and psychiatry input on the pathway is provided by a CAMHS LD Consultant.
The service receives approximately 3704 referrals per year, including new and re-referrals, and 2933 records where a referral allocation exists for 2022. All new cases are seen first by one of the Multidisciplinary team for a mental health assessment. Following this, the young person may be seen for a secondary assessment by a psychiatrist when there are concerns such as eating disorders, psychosis (under 16 years), moderate or severe depression, obsessive-compulsive disorder, severe self-harm, or complex cases. In all cases where a psychiatric opinion is sought, the cases will be brought to one of three Multi-Disciplinary (MDT) weekly meetings.
It is expected that the Consultant will have approximately 2-3 patient-related contacts per clinical session. These may include review appointments (face-to-face or remotely), therapeutic treatment appointments, multi-agency meetings, CPA reviews, and consultations with other clinicians or professionals about specific patients.
Main duties of the job
The specific duties include:
1. The post holder will, along with their Consultant colleagues, provide Consultant psychiatric leadership to the CAMHS Service.
2. The post holder will offer regular consultation to the multi-disciplinary team both through the team MDT case discussions and on an individual basis.
3. The post holder will assess, contribute to the formulation of care plans, and treat where appropriate young people and their families where there is a question of psychiatric diagnosis or where the case is very complex.
4. The post holder may also be required to assess in cases of high risk.
5. The post holder will work with the MDT in the ongoing treatment and management of cases where Consultant Psychiatric skills are required.
6. The post holder will liaise with other agencies and professionals to ensure the wellbeing of the young person, including the processes of Child Protection and the Care Programme Approach when appropriate.
7. All cases will be case managed by a member of the MDT.
