A bit about the job:
Aviva Construction is embarking on a long-term strategy to expand its construction business, capitalising on both favourable near-term market trends and conditions and long-term opportunities. The successful candidate will need a proven track record in underwriting CAR risks with knowledge of writing both international and UK risks. The candidate will possess strong experience and credentials in technical underwriting and pricing of construction risks, particularly in respect of Engineered timber and frame risks as well as a strong reputation in a market-facing role: for effective management, communication, and negotiation with brokers and clients. They will also support the development of strategy with the Head of Construction for expanding the CAR proposition.
The candidate will also have experience and be comfortable navigating a large insurance organization, including effective interaction with risk engineers, claims specialists, client and broker relationship managers, operations and administration, and finance.
As an Underwriting Manager you will have P&L accountability for the performance of CAR & Facilities within the Construction segment, be involved in market engagement, including interaction with producers, clients, and Aviva’s peers in the marketplace. This includes both the London Market and international markets. You will have a role in driving a disciplined growth strategy, including portfolio steering and development of business acquisition channels. You will also exercise key responsibilities for the training and development of junior underwriting staff, and to deliver thought leadership in the marketplace.
Skills and experience we’re looking for:
* Solid underwriting experience with in-depth knowledge of London market business, particularly within the CAR sector
* Established broker networks
* Confident and articulate – needs to be comfortable engaging with brokers and undertaking negotiations, proactively representing Aviva to the market
* Analytical/Strategic – be able to review submissions and understand Aviva’s appetite whilst considering market conditions
* Teammate who is self-motivated and willing to train/mentor junior members of the team and have proficient IT skills
