Job Purpose The Senior Access Architect is integral to Liberty Global’s strategy for the transition of its access networks towards converged, digital, virtualized and disaggregated multi-service uRLLC networks. This role involves creating guidelines and blueprints for the End-to-End Access Transport network architecture, defining related building blocks and interfaces, and developing cost-efficient deployment strategies based on long-range cases and demands. This role demands a blend of technical expertise, strategic insight, and leadership skills to guide Liberty Global's network transformation efforts, with a strong emphasis on xPON and Active Ethernet disaggregation and virtualisation technologies. The successful candidate should be adept at navigating complex technical landscapes while aligning network architectures with business objectives and emerging technological trends. Key Accountabilities Analyse mid and long-term access network business demands to define architectural network requirements concerning capacity, latency, reliability, agility, and virtualization. Model various virtualized and disaggregated network architecture solutions to meet business demands and perform pro and cons analysis based on technical capabilities, CAPEX/OPEX costs, scalability, reliability, and customer experience/NPS scores. Create High-Level Architecture documents and Blueprints to describe selected E2E access network architecture solutions, aligning with IT, Operations, Procurement, and Finance. Define and specify required building blocks within the architectural framework to support RFPs for hardware/software vendor selections, with a focus on virtualization and disaggregation. Communicate the concept, impacts, and benefits of architectural frameworks across all functions within Liberty Global and act as a knowledge transfer point of contact. Lead or support multi-functional architecture or strategy teams to analyse and align sophisticated architectural frameworks across various technical business domains. Continuously review existing architectures and market developments/innovations to identify and discuss architectural improvement opportunities, focusing on virtualized and disaggregated solutions to enhance network performance. Participate in vendor or internal meetings, technical summits, international conferences, and support international standardization bodies. Knowledge & Experience Essential skills & abilities: Deep understanding of IP networking, including IPv4/IPv6, routing protocols (BGP, ISIS, etc.), Segment Routing, MPLS, overlay technologies like EVPN, IPVPN and network topologies. Expertise in access network technologies, specifically xPON (GPON, XGS-PON, 25G-PON) and Active Ethernet. Good understanding of the optical world with CWDM, DWDM and coherent technologies. Good understanding of modern mobile networks including 5G, FWA. Proficiency in network virtualization technologies (NFV, SDN) and related platforms like OpenStack, Kubernetes. Knowledge of cloud architectures (public, private, hybrid) and cloud-native principles. Understanding of disaggregated network elements and the transition from monolithic to modular systems. Familiarity with open standards and architectures like ONF, TIP, OCP, and OpenRAN. In-depth knowledge of telecommunications standards and protocols, including ITU-T, ETSI, IEEE, etc. Understanding of QoS, QoE, and SLA considerations in service delivery. Awareness of emerging technologies such as uRLLC, MEC, IoT, and their implications on network architecture. Understanding of AI/ML applications in network optimization and automation. Knowledge of case development, CAPEX/OPEX analysis, and the financial aspects of network deployments. Understanding of market trends, customer experience metrics (NPS), and their impact on network design and service delivery. Extensive experience in telecommunications, with a focus on network architecture, planning, and design. Proven track record in leading large-scale network transformation projects, including virtualized and disaggregated networks. Experience in creating High-Level Architecture (HLA) documents and technical blueprints for sophisticated network solutions. Demonstrable ability to lead multi-functional teams and collaborate with various groups (IT, Operations, Finance, etc.). Experience in working with hardware and software vendors, including leading RFP processes and vendor selection. Good communication skills to articulate architectural concepts, impacts, and benefits to both technical and non-technical partners. Engagement in ongoing professional development and active participation in technical summits, conferences, and standardization bodies. Proactive in reviewing and adopting market innovations and technologies to improve network performance. Ability to analyze mid- and long-term business demands and translate them into technical requirements. Expertise in conducting pro and cons analysis, assessing scalability, reliability, and cost-efficiency of different architectural solutions.
