Compliance Engineer - North England and Scotland - £51,529 to £63,000 + Company Car
National Gas has an exciting and important role in achieving net zero and in leading a fair energy transition for the UK. We will do this by developing the green gas system of tomorrow, while delivering the natural gas needs of today.
The Operations team maintain, repair and upgrade 7,666km of high-pressure pipe, 23 compressor stations, 504 above-ground installations, and 8 connected distribution networks through a highly skilled team of over 600 technicians and engineers across Great Britain.
About the role
As the Compliance Engineer for the Scotland and North England patch, you will support Operational regions & National Gas Services to continuously ensure a high performing, safe, compliant and environmentally aware culture. Reporting to the Head of Operations you will be a self-starter with a desire for knowledge & development.
The nature of our business means we must ensure compliance with our regulatory obligations including but not limited to CDM, Temporary Works, Roadworks compliance, Emergency Planning HSE requirements and regulations at all times in addition to accurate data and regulatory reporting.
In this role, you will plan, prepare and conduct regular assurance visits to ensure high safety standards and report back findings with suggested areas for improvement and what good internal and external practices look like.
You will participate and lead in the development and production of Formal Process Safety Assessments including HAZOP, HAZID, HAZCON workshops, and Job Specific Risk Assessments.
You will ensure that the emergency, security, safety, operational and environmental plans are developed, authorised, reviewed and tested on a regular basis. As part of this, you will undertake incident investigations to determine root causes and subsequent actions to mitigate as necessary.
As we continue on our upgrade journey, you will support the construction and commissioning of new assets onto the National Transmission System in accordance with agreed policies & quality standards.
What we are looking for
To be successful in this role you will have a good understanding of safety & environmental legislative requirements with experience of working in high safety environments. It would be advantageous (not required) to have an understanding of the operation and maintenance of high-pressure Gas Transmission Systems.
You will have knowledge and experience of the permit to work systems, risk assessment and method statement requirements. In your career, you will have developed strong leadership, influencing, customer orientation and communication skills, providing the ability to collaborate effectively within the team.
This role may include line managing a small team as we grow in size to meet future workload requirements therefore experience of leading and managing will be advantageous. A willingness to travel is essential due to the geographical nature of the work you will be undertaking, and you may be required to stay away overnight on occasion.
