The post-holder will work without direct supervision and may be required to take charge of the Critical Care Unit for a span of duty in the absence of the Unit Manager or Matron.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Development, implementation, and evaluation of programmes of care.
2. Effective leadership and staff management/development.
3. Always work within the NMC’s Code of Professional Conduct.
4. Lead, provide, and supervise a very high standard of compassionate care to patients.
5. Accountable for staffing issues and managing a large team.
6. Support the safety and quality agenda of patient care and staff management.
7. Ensure that the values and objectives of the Trust are met, whilst improving patient outcomes.
8. Support the journey of the patient from admission to discharge.
9. Identify risk and formulate actions to reduce this risk.
10. Ensure patient throughput is effective.
11. Support the Matron, Consultants, and the Multi Disciplinary Team and deputise for seniors in their absence.
12. Manage staff sickness, appraisal, education, and clinical needs.
13. Responsible for the safe custody, checking, and administration of drugs, including inotropes.
14. Exercise effective leadership acting as an exemplary role model for the unit team.
15. Ensure effective communication with patients, their carers, and the MDT.
16. Ensure compliance with Trust policies and procedures.
17. Monitor performance and educational needs of self and others through the appraisal system.
18. Collaborate with clinical practice facilitators to develop an effective clinical learning environment.
19. Act as a mentor for all pre and post-registration nurses.
20. Uphold the reputation of the Trust and safeguard the wellbeing and dignity of patients and their relatives.
