POST TITLE: Cleaner
PURPOSE OF THE JOB
This is a vital service that showcases the council in the best light as first impressions are everything, making sure high standard of cleanliness are maintained in the councils offices, for elected officials, staff visitors and members of the public ensures the right impression and helps to keep staff safe.
To ensure that the in-house cleaning service is a showcase of exemplar cleanliness, the post holder will work as part of a dynamic team to help maintain flagship buildings and be at the forefront of cleaning innovation and improvement.
This post is vital in ensuring day to day operations, events and training courses, can take place without hindrance in clean and safe environment.
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES Responsibilities
1. Provide planned, routine and periodic cleaning services that reflect the property type, usage and hours of operation.
2. Ensure all allocated areas are cleaned and maintained to the appropriate standard
3. Minimise disruption to building users whilst performing duties,
4. Take cognisance of all safe working practices and clean according to specifications such as chemical dilution, colour coded cleaning equipment, COSHH and Chemical data sheets.
5. Ensure there are adequate stock levels within the building and cleaning cupboards, reporting any shortages to line management immediately.
6. Ensure all pre-user checks of equipment and machinery are carried out before
use, only operating equipment in accordance with manufacturers instructions
reporting any defects to line management immediately.
7. Report any building related defects to line management immediately, for onward
reporting to the facilities management help desk, working with the cleaning
supervisor to resolve issues in delivery of the cleaning service.
8. Ensure attendance records are completed and immediately report any sickness
and unplanned absence to the supervisor in advance of the shift.
9. Attend mandatory (CoSHH, Health and Safety, BICSc), and operator refresher
training, as required and aim to achieve the British Cleaning Services Certificate
as a minimum qualification.
10.Ensure that the approved uniform supplied by the employer is clean and worn at
all times.
11.Undertake any additional duties in order to maintain and improve the cleaning
services within Southwark council premises
PERSON SPECIFICATION
Knowledge, including educational qualifications:
1.Knowledge of cleaning equipment and experience of using these in a commercial environment.
2.Ability to demonstrate the cleaning industry colour coding for mops and cloths
3.Awareness of or hold the British Institute of Cleaning Services (BICs) qualification certificate
Experience:
4. Demonstrable cleaning experience
5. Excellent customer care, communication and team working skills
6. Attention to detail /vigilance
Aptitudes, Skills & Competencies:
7. Have a can do attitude and ability to communicate effectively at all levels.
8. Ability to work unsupervised and be able to make cleaning and work related decisions
9. Competent in the use of mechanical cleaning equipment, awareness of CoSHH and chemical data sheets
