An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the theatre team as a band 7 Senior Specialist Educator.
We are looking for a passionate, skilled and knowledgeable senior registered healthcare professional to join a team of educators who continuously develop, deliver and improve the education, teaching and training provided by University Hospitals Birmingham.
Excellent clinical, leadership and communication skills are essential along with the ability to work in an innovative way. The successful candidate will be passionate about education, quality and safety as well as acting as an excellent role model.
Candidates must be a registered nurse, an operating department practitioner or hold an equivalent healthcare professional registration and have experience in the theatre setting.
We are looking for an individual who is passionate and enthusiastic about ensuring high quality professional development opportunities for both pre and post registration learners.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will manage the Specialist Educators within the Theatre Department ensuring that the clinical education and development needs of the registered and unregistered Nursing and Operating Department Practitioner workforce is identified and addressed using approved, proven and credible methods.
The post holder will help influence the Trust education strategy and develop and implement an Education Strategy for the Theatre department, monitoring the quality of provision and ensuring the workforce is developed to meet the needs of service now and in the future.
The post holder will take the lead on ensuring all registered and unregistered nursing staff, theatre practitioners and theatre support workers and Nursing Students receive induction, orientation and ongoing development as required.
All references to clinical staff will include registered and unregistered Nursing roles, Operating Department Practitioner and Theatre Support Workers.

Person Specification
Qualifications
* Registered Nurse/ Midwife on the NMC Register
* Or
* Registered Operating Department Practitioner on the HCPC register
* Teaching Qualification e.g. ENB 998, C&G 7307,C&G 7407 parts 1 and 2, or equivalent
* Recognised current mentor and NVQ assessors course or equivalent
* Professional knowledge acquired through degree level supplemented by the completion of a relevant post registration specialist course or experience, e.g. critical care, HDU or specialist pathway pertaining to clinical area
* Evidence of continuous professional development
* PGCE
* Masters Degree or willingness to complete level 7 award
Experience
* Recent significant experience working at a senior level in an acute clinical area for the NHS/ healthcare setting.
* Significant post registration experience working in an education setting.
* Can demonstrate understanding and evidence of experience in practice based supervision and assessment
* Experience of assessment and assignment marking and giving feedback.
* Experience in mentoring, facilitating groups, and coaching others
* Ability to lead on development of modules and deliver teaching packs/programmes to promote a learning environment.
* Knowledge of clinical governance and risk management
* Ability to support reflective practice
* Up to date knowledge of current clinical and professional issues
* Application and understanding of professional policies and procedures
* A sound understanding of safeguarding responsibilities and processes
* Experience in research and audit
* Knowledge of HR and management related processes/ procedures
Additional Criteria
* Ability to review and assess clinical practice and make recommendations
* Excellent IT skills e.g. Word, PowerPoint, email and Excel spread sheets. As well as excellent skills in report writing
* Ability to challenge others
* Clinically aware, competent and able
* Demonstrate competency in IV Therapy, Venepuncture and Cannulation
* Ability to work in a variety of clinical settings with direct patient contact, including manual handling.
* Demonstrate a flexible approach to meeting Trust and department needs, including cross site clinical shift working.
* Excellent time management skills with the ability to self-manage their own diary
* Ability to negotiate and influence decision making
