Job Overview We are looking to recruit a 2 x Pharmacy Ward Services hybrid Porter / Assistants (one post 34 hours, one post 22.5 hours) into our busy Ward Services section of the Pharmacy Department at Frimley Park Hospital on a permanent basis. The successful candidate must be willing to complete a Level 2 Support Staff Course For Pharmacy Stock Management. Main duties of the job To support the Ward Services manager & Dispensary manager in facilitating a prompt and efficient pharmaceutical stock supply to customers. To carry out Portering duties (on a rota basis) within the Pharmacy Department. Approx 50% of your working time will be spent portering with the other 50% completing assistant duties in ward services. Porting will be shared between ward services and the dispensary, dependant of the needs of the services. To be responsible for the handling and distribution of goods both within and between the pharmacy ward service and the dispensary and all departments served within Frimley Park Hospital. To deliver goods offsite as and when needed using the Trust’s electric car. To provide an accurate and timely distribution service for goods between the main pharmacy department/pharmacy ward services and all departments served. Be responsible for the safe custody of goods whilst in transit including refrigerator items, special feeds, ward stock boxes, Envo bags and Controlled Drugs. This may sometimes include delivery packages offsite to patients of outside clinics using the Trust electric cars. To assist the Ward Services Manager with the receipt and delivery of intravenous infusions to wards and departments. To be able to organise daily workload and judge which tasks take priority. Accurately complete daily work records as required. To use and maintain equipment provided and place defect order for any maintenance that is required to the Lead Pharmacy Technician. To assist in the training of new / bank staff/ volunteers, demonstrating correct use of equipment. To maintain a high standard of customer care while carrying out all duties and observe own standard of care, in relation to equipment used in the course of work. Ensure that all patients and visitors are treated in a polite and considerate manner and receive prompt assistance when required. To ensure that telephones are answered efficiently and courteously and that written and / or verbal messages are conveyed quickly, clearly, and accurately. To be responsible for the removal of Pharmacy and Clinical waste from within the department in accordance with trust policy ensuring that all legislation, Trust, and departmental procedures are followed. General Assistant Duties To participate in the distribution service for stock drugs and vaccines to wards, departments, community clinics and GP surgeries to minimize wastage and to ensure adequate stock which is fit for its purpose. To participate in ward topping-up service to ensure availability of stock, which is appropriate, in-date and in sufficient quantity. This includes contributing to the periodical reviews of profiles and consulting with ward staff accordingly. Be responsible for the safe custody of Ward Services. Keep accurate records associated with the function of Ward Services. To perform clerical duties relating to the receipt and subsequent filing of orders and other relevant paperwork. To make outgoing telephone calls and send/reply to e-mails to other healthcare professionals. To order, receive and store pharmaceuticals products. To work according to and within standard operating procedures. Keep accurate records associated with the function of Ward Services. To undertake and participate in the internal checking of stock orders to wards and departments at Frimley Park Hospital and all other units served. To monitor the storage environment and maintain the records required. To accurately place new stock on Ward Services shelves or load the Robot within the Dispensary. To maintain Ward Services stock to minimise wastage. To perform such alternative duties appropriate to the grade as may be required by the Chief Pharmacist or Dispensary Manager or Lead Ward Services Technician. Pharmacy Computer System Take personal responsibility for the accurate and timely input of information onto the computer system to ensure the maintenance of a reliable database. To have keyboard skills and use the computer systems to record and retrieve information as required. Assist with the routine verification of stock levels to ensure accuracy and reliability of database information. Education & Training To undertake practical work in the pharmacy department including practical assessment required for the achievement of level 2 Support Staff Course For Pharmacy Stock Management. To attend any other training schemes relevant to the post. Person specification Qualifications Essential criteria Educated to GCSE or equivalent, to include English and Mathematics Level 2 Support Staff Course for Pharmacy Stock Management or willingness to undertake in 1st year of employment. COMPETENCIES Essential criteria Customer care experience or official training Desirable criteria Previous Porter or pharmacy assistant experience Experience of communicating with a wide range of people. SPECIALIST Essential criteria Experience of orders, receipt and storage of goods Good physical health with ability to lift boxed goods and move awkward loads in accordance with manual handling regulations.
