Avian Ecology Ltd is a specialist ecological consultancy, delivering expert advice and services across a wide range of projects, from renewable energy developments to infrastructure and conservation initiatives. Due to continued growth, we are looking for a GIS Manager to lead our GIS function, supporting our team of ecologists through data management, spatial analysis, and high-quality mapping.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Data Management – Oversee the collection, organization, and maintenance of spatial and ecological datasets.
2. Data Interrogation & Analysis – Conduct spatial analysis, interpret survey data, and generate insights to support ecological assessments.
3. GIS & Mapping – Create high-quality figures, maps, and plans using MapInfo, QGIS, and CAD.
4. Technical Support – Manage GIS-related software, troubleshoot database issues, and optimize workflows.
5. Team Collaboration – Work closely with ecologists to integrate GIS outputs into reports and deliverables.
6. Process Improvement – Develop and implement best practices for data visualization, mapping, and spatial analysis.
About You:
1. Strong GIS expertise, with experience in MapInfo, QGIS, and CAD.
2. Proven background in data management, spatial analysis, and database interrogation.
3. Understanding of environmental and ecological datasets and their applications.
4. Previous experience in the ecology or environmental sector is highly desirable.
5. Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to manage multiple projects.
