The role
Join our team as a Network Security Engineer and contribute to our mission of maintaining a secure and resilient network infrastructure. ANS are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Network Security Engineer to join our organization. The ideal candidate will work hybrid from our Manchester office, and be responsible for ensuring the security of our network infrastructure, with a primary focus on Cisco, Arista, and Fortinet tooling. This position will play a critical role in maintaining the integrity and confidentiality of our data across multiple data centres and complex network environments. A Network Security Engineer will be responsible for routine security tasks, as well as conducting proactive assessments to identify vulnerabilities and implement necessary improvements. This position is perfect for an experienced network engineer looking to move into a more security focused role.
What will I be doing?
Network Security Maintenance:
1. Design, implement, and maintain security measures across the network infrastructure, ensuring compliance with industry best practices and organizational policies.
2. Monitor and analyse network traffic, security logs, and event data to identify and respond to potential security threats.
3. Regularly review network configurations and device hardening to ensure security controls are effective and up to date.
4. Perform and organise vulnerability assessments, penetration testing, and security audits to identify vulnerabilities and recommend appropriate remediation measures.
Network Segmentation and Access Control:
1. Configure and manage access control lists (ACLs), firewalls, and other security devices to enforce network segmentation and control traffic flow.
2. Collaborate with other teams to define and enforce network access policies, ensuring that only authorized personnel and devices have appropriate access rights.
Proactive Security Testing and Vulnerability Management:
1. Collaborate with system administrators and application owners to address identified vulnerabilities and implement necessary patches or configuration changes.
2. Develop and maintain a comprehensive vulnerability management program, including vulnerability tracking, penetration testing, risk assessment, and remediation planning.
Stakeholder Collaboration:
1. Act as a stakeholder for the response team, providing expert guidance on security-related alerts, incidents, and potential improvements.
2. Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including network engineers, system administrators, and application developers, to implement security solutions and improve overall network security posture.
3. Participate in security incident response activities by providing technical expertise and assisting in investigations when necessary.
What will I bring to the role?
1. Existing, or eligibility for HMG Security Clearance (you will need 5 years minimum of UK addresses).
2. Extensive experience in network engineering, with a focus on Cisco, Arista, and Fortinet tooling.
3. Strong knowledge of network protocols, architectures, and best practices.
4. Proficiency in configuring and managing firewalls, intrusion detection/prevention systems.
5. Experience with network segmentation techniques, VLANs, and access control methodologies.
6. Exposure to using vulnerability scanning tools.
7. Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify and mitigate security risks.
8. Strong communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with cross-functional teams and stakeholders.
