Unable to show this video due to your cookie preferences What you can expect to be doing: This role will be responsible for the delivery of a targeted youth offer in the North Locality covering the towns of Blandford, Sherborne, Gillingham and Shaftesbury and the areas in between, working alongside others, and particularly focused on the most vulnerable young people. The post holder will: Undertake direct work with young people. This might include: Working with young people on a one-to-one basis Working with a group of young people alongside another youth worker Working with young people in the community as part detached and outreach work Be an advocate for young people, reflecting their views and enabling others to understand them Work in partnership with other professionals such as teachers, social workers and the police to enable young people to grow and develop Spend up to a day a week to undertake a Level 3 Youth Work Apprenticeship About you: You will have some relevant experience working with people in a caring capacity of some kind, ideally in a youth club or other capacity working with young people. This can be on a paid or voluntary basis Ideally you have a Level 4 Maths and English GCSE (A-C grade) but we can support you to gain this if you are the right candidate. Be committed to learning what youth work is and to completing the work required to complete the Level 3 Youth Work Apprenticeship. Show an understanding of adolescence and what it’s like to be a teenager growing up in Dorset Understand the different professionals and services that work with young people and their families. Be good at working with people, know how to listen and communicate to build trusting relationships. You won’t judge people, can be sensitive when you need to be and show patience, sticking with the young person if things get difficult.
