Job summary Histopathology S pecialist (Band 6)/Registered Biomedical Scientist (Band 5) Royal Stoke University Hospital Histology Department (UHNM) Full-time (37.5hours/week) Working pattern - 7 day service with 3 shift patterns Monday through Friday. Saturday, Sunday and Bank Holidays run a 1 shift system. As a Specialist Biomedical Scientist, you must be HCPC registered with a BSc in Biomedical Sciences (or equivalent) preferably with at least 5 years post registration experience in Histology. Heavy consideration will also be given to candidates who are Registered Biomedical Scientist's with at least 5 years Histology laboratory experience (pre or post registration). These candidates will be expected to complete their specialist portfolio within a 3 year period (from employment). In addition, candidates who are in the process of completing their specialist portfolio will be supported through to completion within a 2 year period (from employment). Main duties of the job To perform the laboratory duties required in the analysis of histological and diagnostic cytology clinical specimens, in order to ensure effective patient diagnosis, monitoring and treatment. The post holder will fulfil the departmental KPI's and departmental objectives of a delivering a service run over 7 days with high quality analytical and interpretive laboratory provision to benefit of patient care. The post holder will be required to work as part of a large team, providing support to our scientific and clinical teams within the department. The post holder will rotate through all sections of our Histology laboratory and undertake data, extract and manipulation, specimen dissection (low level RCPath category transfer trim and dissection), handling and processing, microtomy, routine and specialist staining (H&E, special stains and Immunocytochemistry), renal biopsy processing and frozen section preparation.
