Abundance Artist In Residence Opportunity – Apply Now
We are looking for an artist in residence to help us explore the concept of abundance within two Blackpool neighbourhoods.
We have slowly and organically been building a creative team that is responsive to the conversations outlined above. We currently commission an Exchange Artist in Residence, a Creative Gardener, and a Creative Chef who work with our Neighbourhood Producer. We would like to commission an artist to specifically look at abundance within this programme.
Much of the abundance we see comes from two sources. Firstly the people themselves, who are a wealth of ideas, stories, and knowledge. Secondly is the natural world, from willow harvested at the local SSSI site, to apples picked from neighbourhood trees.
We are commissioning an artist to be in residence so they have a longer time to build a relationship within our communities, and hear things we might not know. You will need to be interested in people and their stories, be proactive and be confident learning through doing. Building relationships is the bedrock of our programme and you will be supported by our Neighbourhood Producer to hold the space for this to happen.
Structure
The artist will need to spend one day a week on site between Hawes Side and Mereside to engage with residents and fully explore the spaces and community. There will also be attendance of Exchange Days and communication with the Abundance team. As the work develops, it might be that there becomes a more intense period of time followed by less visits, driven by the needs of the work.
Time Frame
10 months, initially for 1 day a week
March – December: explorations, hold workshops with residents, build engagement
Budget
Artist Fee: 42 days x £200 = £12,000 (inclusive of travel & materials)
