Shropshire Community Health NHS Trust is expanding our Virtual Ward service and we're looking for a Pharmacy Technician to join our growing Pharmacy Team. Our Virtual Ward provides hospital-level care to patients in their own homes, supporting conditions such as respiratory, cardiology, and frailty. The aim is to prevent avoidable hospital admissions and enable early discharge, ensuring patients receive high-quality care in the comfort of their familiar surroundings.

Main duties of the job
Role
As a Pharmacy Technician within the virtual ward team, you'll play a key role in supporting safe and effective medication management. You will:
1. Provide high-quality pharmaceutical and technical services directly to Virtual Ward patients.
2. Participate in medication reviews and clinical audits.
3. Play a crucial role in medication management during care transitions into and out of the Virtual Ward environment.
4. Conduct home visits to patients in their own homes or care settings to offer holistic pharmaceutical care and assess medicines concordance.
5. Collaborate with the MDT to develop and enhance the pharmacy services provided by our virtual wards.
You will work alongside an experienced Senior Pharmacy Technician, who will mentor and develop you, and have the support of the Principal Pharmacist for Virtual Wards.

Qualifications Essential
1. Professional Qualifications: BTEC Pharmaceutical Science and NVQ Level 3 in Pharmacy
2. Current Registration as a Pharmacy Technician with the General Pharmaceutical Council
3. Qualified to administer medicines to patients using electronic prescriptions or has a willingness to work towards completing this competency.
4. Able to demonstrate degree level or equivalent post registration experience as a Pharmacy Technician.
5. Maintains a portfolio of CPD in line with regulatory body standards.
Experience Essential
1. Demonstrable post qualification experience in a patient facing role
2. Able to demonstrate post-qualification experience working within a multi-disciplinary team
3. Demonstrable experience of providing a pharmacy service on a hospital ward and counselling patients
4. Demonstrable experience of using a range of medicines management procedures and practices.
Knowledge & Skills Essential
1. Proficient in all Microsoft Office software with proven computer literacy and IT skills.
2. Experience of using Pharmacy systems
3. Knowledge of using search engines/medical databases to retrieve information
4. Evidence of undertaking medicine management audits
5. Evidence of good analytical skills and shows attention to detail with a high degree of accuracy
6. Demonstrate accurate numeric skills
7. Good knowledge of pharmacy practice and clinical governance initiatives relating to medicines
8. Good understanding of law and ethics related to prescribing, storage and handling of pharmaceuticals
9. Ability to work well with all grades of staff internally as part of a team and externally including ward staff, doctors and patients
10. Good knowledge of commonly prescribed drugs, their uses and main counselling points
11. Demonstrate ability to maintain required competencies for medicines management duties.
