What You'll Do
Reporting to the Chief IP Counsel, the position will have responsibility for the following tasks:
1. Draft and negotiate a full range of IP and IT related contracts.
2. Partner with business and licensing teams to negotiate and draft IP, software and technology licenses and support technology and licensing teams to generate revenue through IP monetization.
3. Negotiate and draft collaboration and partnership agreements with a strong awareness of IP risks.
4. Collaborate with commercial, technology and sourcing teams to prepare, opine on, and optimize commercial and sourcing agreements, including software and IP aspects relating thereto.
5. Apply legal and business judgment to proposed deals, relationships and other issues requiring legal attention.
6. Develop legal processes and templates for new business and commercial models (including through the use of artificial intelligence (AI)) and provide legal training to product, research and software teams to help identify and navigate risks that may arise during the course of doing business.
7. Advise on open source software (OSS) issues and ensuring software and EULAs comply with OSS policy.
Who You Are
1. Qualified Solicitor specialising in IP or JD (or equivalent) with active bar membership (or equivalent) specialising in IP.
2. Extensive experience in drafting and negotiating IP licenses.
3. Solid knowledge of intellectual property (including patents, trademarks, copyrights and trade secrets) and contract law.
4. Experience in handling software legal matters, including software licenses, open source software, EULAs, evaluation, SaaS and development agreements, and the use of AI.
5. Outstanding written and verbal communication skills.
6. Strong project management and prioritization skills, ability to effectively manage multiple tasks and priorities in a fast-paced environment.
7. Significant experience working in a corporate legal department or large law firm.
It would be a plus if you also:
1. Are qualified as a European Patent Attorney or admitted to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
2. Possess previous experience working within the life sciences or biotechnology sectors.
