The Role – Construction Manager (Civils – Highways, Water, Power & Infrastructure)
An opportunity has arisen for an experienced Construction Manager to take a leading role in the delivery of major civil engineering projects across multiple sectors, including highways, water, power, and general infrastructure. The role involves managing large-scale groundworks, drainage, reinforced concrete structures, utility installations, and complex temporary works.
The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing all site operations, driving programme delivery, managing subcontractors, and ensuring strict compliance with health & safety and quality control standards. This role requires a technically strong, commercially aware, and proactive leader who can manage multiple workstreams and deliver projects safely, efficiently, and to the highest industry standards.
Key Responsibilities
* Oversee all site operations, ensuring work is delivered on time, within budget, and to programme
* Manage large-scale civils works, including earthworks, drainage, utilities, reinforced concrete, and temporary works
* Lead and coordinate subcontractors, direct labour, and site teams, ensuring productivity, efficiency, and high-quality workmanship
* Ensure strict compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations, embedding best practices across all phases of the project
* Work closely with the Project Manager and engineering teams, ensuring technical specifications and design requirements are met
* Take responsibility for temporary works planning and execution, ensuring safe and effective implementation
* Oversee QA/QC processes, ensuring all work meets required standards and specifications
* Manage site logistics, plant, and material coordination, ensuring smooth site operations
* Conduct regular toolbox talks, briefings, and site audits, reinforcing safety standards and compliance with CDM regulations
* Proactively identify and resolve site-based challenges, working collaboratively with stakeholders to mitigate risks and drive efficiency
Key Requirements
* CSCS Card
* SMSTS (Site Management Safety Training Scheme)
* CITB Temporary Works Coordinator Certification
* First Aid Certification
* Cat & Genny Training (Cable Avoidance Training)
* Proven experience as a Construction Manager, delivering major civil engineering projects
* Strong background in highways, water, power, drainage, reinforced concrete (FRC), and general infrastructure
* Demonstrated ability to lead, influence, and coordinate site teams and subcontractors
* Strong commercial awareness, with experience in budget control, procurement, and contract administration
* Knowledge of CDM regulations, risk management, and safety best practices
* Ability to liaise confidently with engineers, consultants, clients, and regulatory authorities, ensuring compliance with industry standards
