Job title: Principal Systems Engineer

Salary: Up to £68,000 depending on skills and experience
What you'll be doing:
1. Lead systems engineering activities on the right-hand side of the engineering lifecycle V-Model, with a particular focus on testing, integration and commissioning, i.e., identifying issues and working with the relevant engineering disciplines to resolve them.
2. Production of progress and quality reporting tools and metrics.
3. Act as the senior point of contact with customers and/or suppliers in assigned areas on engineering matters, to resolve complex problems and issues and to maintain awareness in both parties of priorities and objectives.
4. Provide help and direction to less experienced team members to support both their effective working and their development.
5. Make engineering decisions within own sphere of responsibility and delegated authority.
6. Maintain a level of SQEP for the role through personal and professional development.
Your skills and experiences:
Essential:
1. Experience in a software, hardware, and system delivery team.
2. A high level of understanding of the engineering lifecycle, with demonstrable hands-on testing and integration experience.
3. A high level of understanding of systems engineering methodologies and practices.
4. Competence and capability with systems engineering tools.
Desirable:
1. Bid team experience.
2. Naval ships platform experience in Gun Control and Electro Optical Control systems.
3. Requirements management and system design experience.
Engineers at all levels should possess an academic qualification in Engineering or other related STEM subjects as well as specific (either academic or professional) qualifications and become recognised as Incorporated or Chartered Engineers through an appropriate recognised professional institution. Engineers are encouraged, and will be supported, to achieve the relevant accreditation. Preference will be given to candidates who are already professionally registered.

The Systems Engineering team:
This is an exciting opportunity to work on the all-new Type 26 Frigate programme for the Royal Navy, driving forward the Gun Control and Electro Optical Control system testing and integration at the land-based integration facility, and commissioning on the Type 26 ship itself. As a Principal Systems Engineer, you will work in a small team leading the technical activities and having responsibility for all aspects of systems engineering.
