We are looking for people with regulation, policy, and code change experience to be part of a team that will deliver an exciting new perspective on industry codes in GB, enabling the transition to net zero. Industry codes are the contracts that underpin the operational and commercial relationships in the energy industry. The team you will work in supports and enables the business to operate within our regulatory licensed activities, providing expert regulatory support to the business in order to maximise benefits for end consumers and Great Britain.
You will facilitate and drive the change process within our legal and regulatory frameworks that underpin the operational and commercial relationships in the UK to ensure that the Codes and Frameworks in place are easy for all to understand, deliver positive change for end consumers and meet our ambitious net zero targets. The Codes in the remit of the Technical Codes team includes the Grid Code, STC and SQSS.
This role can be based from Wokingham, Warwick, Glasgow or London, and we continue to offer hybrid working from office and home. We are open to full time and part time applicants, as well as flexible working arrangements.
Key Accountabilities
Work across the energy industry to identify and analyse issues within the current industry codes and wider market frameworks, with the ability to present key findings and recommendations.
Manage input and engagement (both internally and externally) into complex code modifications and develop technical solutions to meet needs.
Balance operational or system benefits with the costs to all parties to find optimal solutions for the consumer.
Develop and implement industry code changes, identify and manage technical and commercial risk ensuring that both our, and consumer value is adequately represented.
Ensure that, during code development, due account is taken of implementation issues such that changes can be fully delivered by the business. Develop legal text, where required, which fully enables those implementation needs and is practically achievable for all impacted parties.
Ensure that, during code development, appropriate engagement with internal stakeholders such as Legal, Finance and Corporate Affairs is managed effectively.
Understand the evolving requirements of stakeholders as the energy system changes at pace and convert those requirements into a common vision of how industry frameworks can be used to effect changes that are aligned to our commercial and regulatory strategies and provide value to consumers.
Negotiate with, manage, and influence key stakeholders who all have competing priorities or end goals. Engage with Ofgem, in particular the Chief Engineer's team, to ensure that our technical and commercial position is understood and to help develop its appreciation of the impact of potential changes.
Provide necessary technical, regulatory and commercial input to external committees and working groups, ensuring that sufficient influence is used in discussions with customers, stakeholders, DESNZ and Ofgem to deliver results that align with our commercial, regulatory and European strategy and manage those issues and changes ensuring all internal and external customer and stakeholder expectations are managed effectively.
Continuously develop leadership skills to increase ability to work independently on more complex changes. Coach and mentor other team members.
