Job Title: Quality Engineer
Location: Northampton
Pay Range/details: £40,000 - £45,000
Contract Type: Permanent
We are collaborating with a large automotive engineering company known for designing and manufacturing high-performance engines and electronics. They work mainly with car manufacturers, motorsports teams, and high-performance vehicle makers, providing advanced engine technology, powertrains, and data systems.
They’re looking for an experienced Quality Engineer who can provide Quality Engineering support to the company’s Quality, Production, and Engineering functions whilst also being part of the customer interface.
Key Responsibilities – Quality Engineer
1. Ownership of internal quality issues and resolution with known Quality tools, in a timely fashion
2. Data collection, collation, and development of improvement activities
3. Definition of inspection criteria
4. Lineside quality improvement activities such as defect disposition analysis, scrap and rework analysis, as well as general improvement projects
5. Data driven improvement activities in response to internal quality gate findings including conducting root cause analysis, countermeasure implementation, and auditing
6. Management of internal quality KPIs and metrics – development of improvement plans
7. Conducting internal quarantine and scrap reviews
8. Assisting in external Quality activities where needed (significant overlap with customer impact issues)
9. Planning and Managing APQP and PPAP activities, including the PPAP tracker
10. Raising and management of concessions and the concession system
11. Process and Product Auditing and improvement activities
12. Consider the health and safety, environmental, and energy impact of all activities
13. Support the Company’s compliance with the Data Protection Act 2018, following policy and best practice
Qualifications & Requirements – Quality Engineer
1. Experience in aluminium CNC machining
2. Working knowledge of GD&T
3. Basic knowledge of Aluminium casting processes
4. Strong Practical problem-solving skills
5. Demonstrated experience in automotive PPAPs / APQP
6. Experience of using Quality tools (8D, 5Why, Ishikawa, etc.)
7. Experience in a customer-facing role
8. Some experience of Process Audits
9. Good time management
10. Knowledge of visual management techniques
11. Experience of manufacturing metrology equipment including CMMs
12. Experience in the use of handheld gauging equipment
13. Working understanding of statistical analysis tools such as Gauge R&Rs, Capability analyses, and comparison tests etc.
