Job Overview Band 7/8a Clinical/Counselling Psychologist in Medical Psychology : Working in Cancer Services This is an exciting opportunity to take on a new role, funded initially by Macmillan and EMCA, then the local ICB. The post holder will be involved in supporting a newly appointed 8b psychologist in setting up the psychological provision for cancer services within the area. This will involve working closely with the relevant MDTs, developing a local plan and pathway, input to meetings and clinics, offering training and supervision. The role will also involve patient work, including psychological assessments (including for suitability for surgery), signposting and intervention. The role will also be supported initially by an assistant psychologist. The team includes clinical and counselling psychologists, trainees, assistants, and excellent admin/clerical support. Job Description Summary (Main duties and responsibilities) The role will involve working closely with the Cancer Services in the acute hospital trust to determine the needs of these services. Following this the successful candidate will work alongside the band 8B to develop the service. The role will also involve liaising with other cancer services and developing good relationships and clear treatment pathways. The role will also include one to one assessments, as well as intervention, assessments for surgery with guidance and training from the 8B psychologist and possibly the development and running of groups. There is already a request for more level two training for staff, as well as more supervision and there will be scope to offer complex case discussions and reflective groups within MDTs. There will be an assistant to support the role for the first year and help with collation of data, which will also be part of the role. With the current development of cancer services within the East Midlands there are already a number of supervisory and special interest groups offing good links and support.
