About the role
In your role as Financial Reporting Manager you will make a meaningful and valued contribution from the outset.
This role will provide a great opportunity to be responsible for production of the Scheme quarterly and annual accounts and the financial statements of USSIM, USSL and SPV statutory accounts.
What you will be doing
As a trusted part of the Finance team, you will be responsible for:
* Production of the Scheme Annual Report & Accounts and USSIM and USSL statutory accounts and SPV statutory accounts
* Working with the project manager to deliver the Scheme Annual Report & Accounts in a timely and efficient manner to required level of quality and detail including preparing and reviewing the verification file as information is received
* Preparing drafts of the CFO Update and Key Facts and Figures sections of the Annual Report & Accounts and the Strategic Reports for USSIM and USSL for review by the Group financial controller
* Overseeing the production of the USSIM and USSL statutory accounts including understanding of key movements and balances and review of year-end adjustments and journals
* Reviewing SPV statutory accounts which are prepared by the SPV financial accountants to assist with the timetable and review and co-ordination with external audit
* Producing quarterly scheme reporting pack including commentary, high level analysis and supplementary schedules
* Identifying and developing improvements to the reporting process where manual journals could be replaced with system developments or enhancements
* Co-ordinating the external audit on an annual basis including agreeing the annual timetable and kick off meetings with the external auditor, arranging for prepared by client list to be agreed with names individuals and agreed due dates and holding regular meetings to resolve issues ensuring the audit is completed on time and that there are no surprises
* Leading and developing the financial reporting team in Liverpool to be high performing and high achieving in all the team’s work whilst demonstrating alignment to the USS values
* Championing accounting developments and process improvements that enhance the reporting and information flows
About you

To be successful in the role you will have:
* A professional accounting qualification such as ACA or ACCA
* Experience of preparing, reviewing and submitting statutory accounts
* Knowledge and experience of financial systems, accounting processes and controls
* Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build collaborative relationships with peers and multiple stakeholders
* Strong analytical skills, problem solving capability, an enquiring approach and ability to challenge
* Embracing change and ability to adapt to the complexities and changing financial reporting landscape
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills
