Job overview
This post would be ideal for a gastroenterologist in the middle or toward the end of their specialist training who wishes to develop a specialist interest in endoscopy. Post holders will be expected to perform diagnostic flexible sigmoidoscopy, colonoscopy, and OGD independently and hold JAG certification.
The successful applicant would undertake the design and running of several research projects relating to endoscopy, under the supervision of the endoscopy consultants with a view to obtaining a higher degree over a 2–3-year period. Duties will include coordinating their own research activities, and 2-3 clinical sessions per week. There will be at least one dedicated training endoscopy session.
The post holder would benefit from exposure to a wide range of advanced endoscopic techniques performed at St Marks and throughout the Trust, including surveillance of patients with inflammatory bowel disease, polyposis, and hereditary cancers, advanced polypectomy, combined laparoscopic-endoscopic therapies, double balloon enteroscopy, and video capsule endoscopy.
The post holder will also be required to participate in the endoscopy & gastroenterology on-call rota. A degree of flexibility to help with back filling endoscopy lists will be expected, which may involve cross-site working.
Main duties of the job

There will be at least one dedicated training endoscopy session.
Participation and support in delivery of training courses, the annual Frontiers meeting, developing training materials, and support for other education events and activities will be encouraged.
Attendance at all academic sessions within the hospital will be expected, including weekly educational meetings, Grand Rounds, and a polyp MDT that the post-holder would be expected to attend and present.
The post holder will also be required to participate in the endoscopy & gastroenterology on-call rota. A degree of flexibility to help with back filling endoscopy lists will be expected, which may involve cross-site working.
Person specification
Qualifications
* MB BS or equivalent
* On GMC registered Medical Practitioner GMC specialist registration or within 6 months of CCT
Knowledge and Expertise
* Wide experience of endoscopy
* Competent at diagnostic and basic therapeutic OGD and colonoscopy
* Up to date in acute medical and gastroenterology
* Evidence of active participation in up-to-date training methodology
* Evidence of supporting gastroenterology and medical audit
* Experience of teaching and training undergraduates, postgraduates, and junior medical staff
* Some evidence of research/publications academic achievements
* Broad-based presentations
* NHS experience within the last 3 years
