Job Summary:
Quest engineers are responsible for the design, specification and control of gas turbine OEM projects in Derby and worldwide. The Repair Engineering team is responsible for supporting the development and implementation of repairs for the gas turbine engine fleet. The team is instrumental in supporting repair shops to meet financial targets and enhancing their repair capability.
The Repair Engineer is an individual contributor who will work to make decisions, apply concepts, and resolve issues on assigned projects guided by established business policies, procedures, standards, and best practice.
Roles and Responsibilities
1. Development of repair solutions and recommending inspection methods to meet short-term and long-term business needs.
2. Analyse component repair solutions and/or non-conformance in support of engine overhaul.
3. Able to read and interpret Engineering drawings, the GD&T associated with that drawing and perform tolerance stack up analysis.
4. Collaborate with global engineering organisations and support functions as required (such as design, stress, materials, systems engineering etc.).
5. Able to work across functions in the development, implementation, and final industrialisation of a repair.
6. Generate changes in repair development documents and engine repair manuals.
7. Prepare and present technical data to internal and external customers, including leadership.
8. Share engineering information and promote open dialogue. This includes timely communications on significant issues or developments.
9. Assure proper documentation of technical data generated for the assigned projects and/or tasks is consistent with engineering policies and procedures.
10. Develop specialised knowledge in their discipline. Serves as best practice/quality resource. Have awareness of latest technical developments in own area.
11. Use judgment to make decisions or solve complex tasks or problems in areas of operational/product management, manufacturing, technology, or engineering.
Work Experience
Required Skills (Technical Competencies):
Excellent understanding of the operation of a gas turbine in an aviation or marine application.
Appreciation of engine development testing and the certification process together with airworthiness and safety considerations, and/or previous experience in the aerospace or engineering industry or previous experience of engine, unit or component testing or instrumentation would be beneficial.
Good understanding of technical databases and design documentation, including technical drawings. This includes data manipulation in complex databases, writing technical reports and creation of drawings.
Good understanding of the requirements for export control and intellectual property control when transferring design data across company and geographical boundaries.
Candidates are required to be computer literate in MS Office applications e.g. Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint and Internet Explorer. More advanced MS Office skills such as Power BI, Visual Basic, Excel macro's etc. would be advantageous but not essential.
Previous experience of using bespoke engineering IT systems e.g. NX, PLM Teamcenter, PDM, SAP, etc. would be ideal but is not essential as on the job training will be given.
Desired Characteristics
1. Familiarity with the working process of gas turbine engines and ability to interpret gas turbine engine assembly drawings.
2. Familiarity with after-market maintenance repair and overhaul (MRO) processes.
3. Demonstrated ability to analyse and resolve problems.
4. Ability to document and plan.
Required Qualifications
BSc/MSc/Meng level qualification in engineering or science discipline (or other degree discipline with additional gas turbine training or experience) or equivalent aerospace industry experience.
