The Environmental Product Stewardship Specialist is responsible for helping BT to reduce the impact of its products on the environment; ensuring compliance with environmental product law and meeting the requirements for ISO14001 for the product stewardship aspect. This role spans across BT, including subsidiaries.
What you’ll be doing
Responsible for:
1. Driving initiatives to reduce the environmental impacts of products used and supplied by BT.
2. Ensuring processes are in place and compliance is achieved across BT against UK environmental regulations (including, but not limited to: WEEE, RoHS, Batteries, Packaging, and REACH).
3. Ensuring processes are in place and systems are up to date to meet the requirements of ISO14001 for the product stewardship aspect.
4. Managing BT's environmental risk relating to products, through implementing and maintaining controls and processes, including updates to the Product Stewardship dashboard.
5. Evaluating current and pending environmental legislation and regulatory recommendations, and taking appropriate action.
6. Engaging with teams across BT on the applicability, interpretation, or implementation of legal requirements.
7. Managing BT’s producer responsibility obligations required to comply with Packaging, WEEE, and Battery regulations.
8. Supporting BT’s Plastic Packaging Tax compliance obligations for submission of data to HMRC.
9. Acting as secretariat for the Product Stewardship Forum, managing targets within the current area of responsibility.
10. Supporting procurement to minimize environmental risk from suppliers.
11. Representing BT as a member of Tech UK (Health, Safety, and Environment Consultative Committee).
12. Providing input for the Product Stewardship section of BT’s Purposeful Business (Sustainability) Annual Report.
Skills Required
Required Skills:
* A good knowledge of ISO14001 Environmental Management System.
* Knowledge of environmental product legislation.
* Excellent stakeholder management skills.
* Ability to work independently across all levels of management and lines of business.
* Risk management expertise in identifying, assessing, and responding to risks.
* Proficient in Excel for data manipulation related to producer responsibility reporting.
Desired Experiences:
* Experience with ISO14001 Environmental Management System.
* Familiarity with environmental product legislation.
* Stakeholder management experience.
* Experience working independently across all levels of management.
* Risk management experience.
