Job Role: Transport Manager
Location: Bolton
Reporting to: Warehouse Director
Salary: £35,000 - £37,500 depending on skills and experience
Hours of Work: Contracted 42.5 hours per week – Mon to Fri – 10am – 6pm
Our client is one of the UK’s leading manufacturers and distributors of bathroom products. The business has manufacturing operations in the UK (Halifax), China (Shanghai) and the UAE (Fujairah/Dubai) employing over 600 people across 6 sites with an annual turnover of £80m+. The majority of sales are into the UK market (dominated by sales to major on-line retailers) with a growing presence in the North American market as the business expands its international operations.
Job Summary
To safely and effectively manage drivers, fleet, 3rd party logistics providers, budgets, IT and other resources in a customer focused and cost-efficient manner to meet business requirements and support profitable growth. To identify risks, issues and explore opportunities, and deploy innovative solutions and techniques to improve Logistics service offering. This role will report directly to the Warehouse Director and will oversee approximately 30 drivers and 3 administrative staff while managing multiple 3rd party relationships with companies like DX, DPD, Parcelforce, and ArrowXL pallet carriers.
Key Areas of Responsibility:
1. Manage the routing of the vehicle effectively.
2. Ensure all communication devices are in use and being used correctly to benefit the operation (PDA’s).
3. Oversee cost control and KPI performance, actively seeking to improve efficiency and reduce operating costs while meeting budget as a minimum.
4. Manage 3PL providers by controlling expenditure, ensuring service excellence, and managing purchase orders along with POD retrieval.
5. Implement appropriate controls and procedures to manage all aspects of customer service and communication.
6. Maintain a customer-focused approach by understanding and appreciating customer requirements and quality standards to exceed service expectations.
7. Maintain an excellent working knowledge of transport legislation and requirements for best practices relevant to the transport industry.
8. Ensure adherence to all Health & Safety regulations, including H&S induction and training, operating procedures, risk assessments, and emergency procedures.
9. Oversee vehicle management (owned/leased) by conducting safe vehicle operational checks, including tyres, bodywork, fluids, etc.
10. Plan driver resource strategically to maximize capacity and utilization of the fleet while reducing labor costs.
11. Work on ad-hoc projects and undertake other reasonable duties as required by Senior Management.
12. Implement continuous improvement (CI) initiatives to improve processes and reduce costs while enhancing customer experience.
13. Be responsible for personal health and safety and that of colleagues, in accordance with the Health & Safety at Work Act (1974) and relevant legislation.
14. Work in accordance with the General Data Protection Regulations and Data Protection Act.
15. Ensure that confidential material is not leaked from the department to unauthorized personnel.
