An established and very successful commercial and refurb contractor based in Livingston is seeking a QS to join their team due to project wins. Our client is looking for someone who has had exposure to heritage/historical projects as they self-deliver stone masonry and joinery.
You will be joining a team of 3 and will report into the commercial manager.
Hours are 9am - 5pm or 8am - 4pm Monday to Friday (whichever you prefer) and you will be office-based.
They are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Quantity Surveyor to join their team. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in managing costs, contracts, and budgets across various construction projects to ensure efficiency and profitability. This position requires strong analytical abilities, exceptional communication skills, and a thorough understanding of construction and financial management.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Cost Management:
1. Prepare, monitor, and control budgets and expenditure for construction projects.
2. Conduct cost analysis for project work.
3. Advise on procurement strategies and options.
2. Tendering and Contracts:
1. Prepare tender documents, contracts, budgets, and bills of quantities.
2. Evaluate and negotiate tenders from subcontractors and suppliers.
3. Administer and manage contractual claims and disputes.
3. Valuation and Payments:
1. Perform regular valuations of work in progress (WIP).
2. Certify and process payments to subcontractors and suppliers.
4. Risk Management:
1. Identify and mitigate financial risks associated with projects.
2. Ensure compliance with relevant legislation, standards, and best practices.
5. Reporting and Documentation:
1. Maintain detailed project documentation, including cost and contract records.
2. Prepare regular financial and progress reports for stakeholders.
Requirements:
1. Education and Qualifications:
1. Bachelor's degree in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, or a related field.
2. Membership of a relevant professional body (e.g., RICS, CIOB) is highly desirable.
2. Experience:
1. Experience as a Quantity Surveyor in the construction industry.
2. Proven track record in managing budgets and costs on construction projects.
3. Skills and Knowledge:
1. Strong understanding of construction contracts, cost control, and procurement processes.
2. Excellent knowledge of relevant software (e.g., AutoCAD, CostX, MS Excel).
3. Exceptional negotiation and communication skills.
4. Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines effectively.
