Volunteer Environmentally Focused Maritime Heritage Charity in Exeter Seeks Trustees | Britannia Sailing Trust
Britannia Sailing Trust has saved a centenarian sailing ship. We need new Trustees now to help us complete the restoration and to support the transition to a traditional charter company ensuring Britannia's future for another hundred years.
What difference will you make?
Board members are vital to ensure that as a Trust we can achieve our goals of returning a beautiful historic sailing ship to the environment that will help to preserve her, to pass on skills to young people, potential boatbuilders, supporting them in a maritime career, taking disadvantaged people to sea, and protecting our precious marine environment.
What are we looking for?
We are looking for two or more trustees who can help us with communications and marketing, and business development. Experience of developing a fundraising strategy, a communications plan and implementing it, which will include social media would be very helpful. Experience of the sea or sailing would be useful but not essential. Most of all, a commitment to our cause and energy and enthusiasm are essential. We would like to encourage young people to apply as they are our future.
What will you be doing?
Our aims are to pass on the heritage craft skills, now endangered, of traditional wooden boatbuilding, to a younger generation, and to give as wide a group of people the opportunity of sailing a vessel that is so important to Britain's maritime heritage. Our Board is committed to helping and supporting individuals who have been economically or educationally disadvantaged or who have health issues, as there is no better therapy than to go to sea as part of a team! You don't have to be a sailor, but a love of the sea and boats might be an advantage. We need more funding in order to complete the restoration within the next two years so we would welcome an individual who has fundraising expertise, making a plan or helping to write bids, or managing a fundraising group of volunteers. We also need someone who can help us to promote our cause on social media platforms. We meet on Zoom every fortnight, but it is essential that new Trustees will live within a 25-mile radius of Exeter where Britannia is berthed. This is required so that they can have physical contact with the team and the project, but also hopefully bring local knowledge and essential local networks to our Board. Working with young people is important to us as is getting Britannia sailing again. If this inspires you and you think you can help us to achieve our goals, then please get in touch.
We are an interesting bunch with many stories to tell and above all we all want to make a difference and have some fun at the same time! Many, many people have been inspired by Britannia's story. You could be part of the team that makes it happen!
