A little about our Telford site:
Our advanced manufacturing site in Telford, is one of our main processing facilities, processing up to 1.5 million birds per week. There are over 1,200 talented people employed at our Telford site, helping us to deliver high quality products to our customers and making the business a trusted leader in fresh foods.
We've recently invested £2.3 million in technology and equipment, making it one of the most advanced food manufacturing facilities in the UK.
About the Role:

As an inclusive, forward-thinking business, we take pride in our approach to investing in our people across Avara Foods and are looking for a highly competent and motivated Maintenance Engineer to join our Engineering Team, based at our Telford site.
The role is factory-based, so you'll be working in a fast-paced, dynamic FMCG factory environment which is noisy and refrigerated in some areas, manufacturing short shelf life products where hygiene standards are critical. You'll be working days and nights on a 4o4o shift pattern (06:00-18:30 and 18:00-06:30).
What will you be doing as an Engineer at Avara?
As a Multi-skilled Maintenance Engineer you will optimise machinery output and product quality, and minimise plant downtime through effective preventative maintenance, efficient breakdown response whilst maintaining a safe and healthy environment and promoting good engineering practice.
What will your key responsibilities include?
1. Taking a lead role within your team during breakdowns with your skills and experience.
2. Ensuring that maintenance is carried out in line with PPM schedules and that effective and efficient corrective action is taken.
3. Quick and effective response to breakdowns in more than one area on site, where possible identifying root cause and suggesting possible improvements to prevent further breakdowns occurring.
4. Communicating unscheduled breakdowns to the Engineering Shift Manager / Principal Engineer and work with the operations department to minimise plant disruption.
5. Following engineering standards and good hygiene practice for the department & site.
6. Ensuring all activities are carried out within health and safety guidelines, highlighting possible areas of improvement to the Engineering Shift Manager / Principal Engineer.
7. Timely reporting of any Health and Safety, Animal Welfare and Environmental Issues.
8. Demonstrating basic fault finding techniques to identify root cause of issues.
9. Raising Stock and Non-Stock request forms.
10. Use of the CMMS system for spare parts, to log and complete jobs.
What you'll need to be successful:
1. An advanced Engineering Apprenticeship in either mechanical or electrical disciplines.
2. Solid Engineering experience, ideally within food manufacturing.
3. Familiarity with process machinery or equivalent equipment and have the ability to fault find.
4. Mechanical fitting skills. Machining, welding and fabrication experience would be advantageous.
5. The ability to mentor colleagues.
6. A self-motivated attitude with the ability to multi-task and thrive in a timeline-driven environment.
7. An individual who is keen to make a difference with their pro-activeness and a can-do attitude.
8. Industrial refrigeration experience is desirable but not essential.
9. Desirable IEE 17th or 18th edition.
10. Desirable Advanced Electrical qualification.
11. Desirable good knowledge of PLCs, Variable speed drives and control systems.
