Cheshire Constabulary is seeking to appoint a Deputy Head of Legal Services based at Constabulary Headquarters in Winsford.
The Deputy Head of Legal Services is a key position that contributes to the overall strategic leadership of a large and diverse in-house legal department serving the interests of the Constabulary, the Police and Crime Commissioner and Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service. This role is central to the management and accountability of several of the specialist departmental units, protecting and furthering clients’ interests through a management caseload of the most complex legal cases.
In this role, you will have a keen eye for performance and promote good standards of governance as well as discharging the responsibilities of the role of Deputy Monitoring Officer (Constabulary) as well as deputising for the Chief Legal Officer as necessary.
The successful candidate will have an understanding of corporate governance structures in either the public or private sector as well as an ability to understand and recognise competing political and organisational demands.
The successful candidate will be a practicing solicitor, barrister or fellow of the Institute of Legal Executives with at least 5 years post qualification experience in a policing or criminal justice or regulatory legal environment.
We are also looking for individuals with leadership and management experience across a team of staff and resources, with knowledge and experience of the law and procedures across a number of disciplines.
