Applications are invited for a new post at Arrowe Park and Clatterbridge Hospitals. The appointee will join an existing team of 5 Upper GI surgeons, within a team of 7 Consultant Colorectal Surgeons and 5 Consultants in Emergency Surgery. Applicants should have wide general surgical experience and have been fully trained in benign upper GI surgery including hiatal surgery. It is expected that appointee will work closely with emergency surgeons to support urgent biliary service. The trust 5-year strategy includes the development of bariatric surgery and our Clatterbridge Centre will deliver bariatric surgery in partnership with Phoenix Health. Experience in bariatric surgery although preferred is not essential. The Trust is keen develop a robotic hiatal surgery service and both the Clatterbridge and Arrowe Park campuses will each have a Da Vinci Xi robot. Upper GI cancer work is provided by one of the team at the regional centre in Liverpool. The department of surgery has an exciting research fellow programme with past fellows obtaining a higher degree and entering higher surgical training. There is enormous scope and support for surgeons interested in research to be supported by the trust and fellows in new projects. Applicants should be on the Specialist Register, hold CCST/CCT or be within six months of obtaining at the time of interview. The appointee will share in the provision of elective and emergency services to the population of Wirral.
