Location: HQ in London, UK - daily remote working with occasional office visits as required

Role Overview:
The successful candidate will be our first dedicated front-end application engineer, responsible for modernising our existing and expanding user interface, bringing in new technologies where appropriate.
Our development team, currently composed entirely of full stack developers, is highly enthusiastic and ready for a dedicated front-end lead, now needing somebody who’s a leader in the field to light the path. We have exciting challenges in the upcoming year, including productionising new AI features as well as a comprehensive back-end upgrade which you will need to match by presiding over our next front-end.
Your responsibilities will include:
* You will be the champion for UI/UX excellence within the business - lead, inspire, educate and motivate
* You will personally write new front-end code and modify existing, but also ensure the wider team are well-equipped to maintain and extend your work
* You will take the lead on redefining, reimagining and rebuilding our user interface both from a design and technology perspective with our future plans in mind
* You will work closely with our Product team to ensure the “voice of the customer” is represented in the changes you are making
* You will be rigorous and obsessive about consistency, and methodical in your working practices to ensure the success of what you’re building
* You will work closely with our Lead QA Automation Engineer to ensure the front-end code is adequately covered by automated tests
* Success in your role will be highly visible, taking the form of customer delight and satisfaction with how our product looks, feels and performs
You will be part of our Tech Team. ToucanTech also has staff working in design, product, data, sales, marketing, operations, and customer support.
Required Skills
* You have previously been responsible for the success of a UI and can show “portfolio work” that evidences you as the lead
* You hold yourself to high standards and take professional pride in your work
* You are deeply proficient with HTML, CSS, JavaScript/TypeScript and have used the JQuery library extensively
* You have deep experience with at least two of these front-end frameworks: React, Vue, Bootstrap, Tailwind
* You are well-versed in cross-browser, cross-platform and mobile device/responsive design considerations
* You have ideally worked with PHP on the back-end
* Even better if you have worked with a Symfony backend, and therefore have experience with e.g. Twig templates and components
* You are a good communicator who can work cross-team to drive change
* You are able and willing to coach team members on front-end development
