More about Islay
Here, you'll never be short of inspiration. Islay (pronounced eye-la), is the fifth largest Scottish island and is home to approximately 3,000 residents. It’s 25 miles long, with a diverse landscape of 23 beaches, high peaks and wilderness, sea lochs and dramatic cliffs, and characterful harbour towns and villages. Islay’s abundant wildlife was featured in Attenborough’s Wild Isles series, and it’s also famous for its whisky, with 10 distilleries on the island as well as specialist gin, rum and craft beer producers.
The Machrie encourages guests to try exhilarating new island adventures – from wild swimming to fatbiking along miles of beach (the hotel has its own ‘fleet’ of fatbikes available for guests), wildlife boat trips to wilderness hikes and exploring Islay by electric bike.
