Renfrewshire Council are seeking to recruit a joinery apprentice for our successful Modern Apprenticeship Programme.\n\nThe successful applicant will be based at our Underwood Road Depot and will work across all Renfrewshire Councils property estate including housing stock, schools, care homes and offices. You will also attend college to work towards achievement of the relevant Scottish Vocational Qualification for the respective trade.\n\nApplicants must be resident within Renfrewshire and aged between 16 and 19 years at the start of apprenticeship.\n\nShortlisted applicants will be required to attend an interview.\n\nSuccessful applicants will secure a 4 year fixed term contract for the duration of the apprenticeship with positive opportunities for permanent employment with Renfrewshire Council.\n\nWe are an equal opportunities employer and welcome applications from suitably qualified persons regardless of their race, sex, disability, religion/belief or sexual orientation or age.\n\nWe would particularly invite applications from those priority groups who are under-represented across our apprenticeship programme. The successful applicant will learn all of the essential skills and tasks required to be an effective joiner. They will attend college to achieve the required Vocational Qualification and will also be supported to complete an Advanced Craft qualification. It is essential that you possess a minimum of 3 National 4 qualifications at grade 4 or above (or equivalent). These can be any 3 subjects including English, Mathâs, Craft and Design, Graphic Communication or other Technical subject.\n\nIt is also essential that you have a genuine interest in the construction industry and are able to carry out all tasks relevant to the modern apprenticeship. This includes being able to demonstrate that you can be an effective team member who can also work on their own, you can show initiative and you have effective interpersonal, communication and numeracy skills.\n\nIt is desirable for you to have an NPA in Construction, Plumbing or Electrical Installation and Maintenance, experience of working in similar environment and have knowledge of the appropriate trade tools. It is also desirable that you have suitable IT skills, knowledge of Renfrewshire Council and have, or are working towards, a full current driving license.\n
