The Senior Ophthalmic Technician will provide technical support to the Ophthalmic services / Imaging Department in the Royal Eye Unit supporting and delivering services to all its outpatient clinics.
• To work along all staff in all areas of the patient pathway – Ophthalmic outpatient clinics including corridor G, ARC, outreach clinics
• To undertake clinical work and related tasks as delegated by qualified nursing staff, following appropriate training and assessment of competency.
• To liaise effectively with all stakeholders in the care process, including carers and relatives, aspiring to provide an effective, seamless, and integrated service to patients.
• To attain departmental competencies in outpatients, theatre, and Imaging Department according to the pathways and protocols after a period of training
• To develop becoming a multi-skilled Ophthalmic technician / photographer to meet the needs of the service and patient-focused care such as vision assessment, instilling eye drops, undertaking baseline observations: BP, BM, TRP.
• To develop excellent skills in operating various ophthalmic imaging equipment (computerised and mechanical) such as Topcon, Humphreys visual field analyser, Heidelberg Spectralis, Pentacam, Slit lamp photography etc.
• To manage Glaucoma monitoring clinics, Retinal virtual clinics, HCQ clinics, ARC Triage.
• To act as a chaperone if required.
• To work with flexibility having different working hours such as 12 -hour shifts, early and late shifts, possible evening shifts, and weekend working.
