Job Purpose The post holder will work within the practice education team to ensure a range of practice education activities are delivered within the Trust processes including; The post holder will align practice education support with NMC and HCPC standards to ensure that Nursing Students, Student Nursing Associates SNAs and AHP students meet these standards Engage with all students and the management of their practice placements within the Trust Work in partnership with service managers to deliver support within practice areas in accordance with NMC and HCPC standards Delivery of briefings to senior managers and other professionals on the requirements in relation to the NMC and HCPC standards Co-ordination and delivery of study days linked to a range of educational opportunites within the remit of the practice education team Assist with practice supervision linked to a range of development programmes within the remit of the Practice Education Team Ensure Practice Assessors, Supervisors and Practice Educators are available as required in specific teams when due to staffing levels this is requirement for a temporary period Take line management responsibility for more junior Practice Education staff Provide managerial cover for the Practice Education Team, as required, when the Practice Education Manager is absent Duties and Responsibilities Communication and Working Relationship Skills The post holder will Develop highly effective working relationships with managers, students and all other learners such as apprentices, globally educated colleagues and preceptees to ensure that all aspects of practice education are understood and effectively managed within practice areas Chair meetings in relationship to practice education as required Carry out presentations at a range internal and external forums for senior managers and others to actively promote practice education Develop and maintain effective communication links with Higher Education Institutions to ensure the trust is able to recruit from universities across the country Maintain effective communications with students prior to commencing their new post including keeping in touch sessions and elective placements for out of area students. Work with the Trust Preceptorship Lead to assist in delivering the Preceptorship Programme as required Support the delivery of supervision in practice to ensure the clinical decision making skills of students and other learners are enhanced Provide managers with advice and guidance on matters relating to practice and when required communicate highly complex/sensitive information in relation to Fitness to Practice issues Analytical and Judgmental Skills The post holder will: Analyse data, trends, gaps and risks in relation to practice education activity Write reports and recommendations and liaise with the senior managers as required Review RMS and SUI reports to ensure learning from experience within nursing practices. Undertake audits, training needs analysis, surveys, self-assessments in order to collate and analyse progress, need, gaps in service etc. Planning and Organisational Skills The post holder will: Plan and organise a broad range of complex activities and events for students and other learners, involving formulating and adjusting plans. Be involved in planning, organising and attending recruitment events and follow up of candidates in conjunction with the recruitment and HR teams Work with the Trust Preceptorship lead to assist in keeping in touch events and other initiatives for students whilst they are waiting to join the Trust in their preceptorship post. Work also with Practice Education Workstream Leads to plan placements and events. Responsibility for Patient/Client Care, Treatment and Therapy The post holder will : Maintain regular clinical contact with services through visiting and support students and other learners in practice which also includes working shifts on occasion alongside students on placement Carry out or delegate the role of Practice Assessor for students on placement when required which may involve observation and assessment of their practice including their treatment interventions Responsibility for Policy and Service Development Implementation The post holder will: Be responsible for reviewing relevant Trust policies in consultation with the policy lead to ensure they align to the NMC and HCPC standards Assist the Practice Education Manager to ensure delivery of all practice education within the Trust using national guidance, contemporary literature and best practice in relation to the support and development of students, other learners and newly qualified staff. Develop high standards of practice throughout the Trust through promotion of legislation, guidance and models of best practice identified through research and reading. Responsibility for Finance, Equipment and Other Resources The post holder will: Monitor expenditure in relation to students and other learners within the training and CPD budgets. Be responsible for the personal use of IT and training equipment. Responsibility for Human Resources, e.g. Supervision, Training, HR Advice and Management The post holder will: Provide a leadership role for Trust in all areas of work relating to the NMC and HCPC standards and the Safe Learning Environment Charter to support learning and assessment in practice Line manage junior practice educators within the practice education team Manage the professional development, management supervision and annual appraisal of all direct reports. Actively participate in team meetings, Personal Development Reviews, personal development planning, 1:1 supervision meetings etc. Manage formal HR processes including conduct issues in relation to students when on placement within the Trust linking with the university, managers and HR colleagues to ensure these are dealt with in accordance with trust policies Actively participate in developing other practice education initiatives and as required deputise for the Practice Education Manager Provide leadership and consultancy guidance, training and mentoring to senior staff on all aspects of practice education. This may include providing guidance on dealing with the complex situations liaising with other workforce colleagues as required Responsibility for Information Resources and Administrative Duties The post holder will: Assess information requirements against desired outcomes in order to gather or request high quality, robust information that will produce the answers required. Ensure all information recorded by self and other individuals has been inputted accurately and is recorded on the correct information system. Challenges where this has not happened. Develop and maintain spread sheets and data on nursing activity, utilising existing methods and systems, training feedback forms, to extract information where appropriate Undertake audits, training needs analysis, surveys, self-assessments in order to collate and analyse progress, need, gaps in service etc. Responsibility for Research and Development The post holder will: Carry out reviews, surveys, audits and improvements using Quality Improvement methodology Work closely with Higher Education Institutions on research activities Freedom to Act The post holder will: Work autonomously within minimal supervision or support to achieve expected results within boundaries Be guided by principles and broad occupational policies or regulations. Guidance may be provided by peers or external reference points. Lead specialist in area of NMC and HCPC standards for placement support Any Other Specific Tasks Required The post holder will work with the Practice Education Manager to: Ensure all of the skills and training needs are students are satisfied in accordance with the NMC and HCPC standards including assessment and sign off students within practice Develop and deliver a programme of Practice Education in a way that is stimulating for the learners, encouraging them to become involved in the learning experience and the organisations learning goals appropriately. Ensure core training requirements are completed as part of line management responsibility for other staff as appropriate. Demonstrate an in-depth knowledge and understanding of the organisations learning and development priorities. Links closely with the wider workforce team in order to maintain this knowledge and understanding. Work under own initiative managing competing demands with only minimal supervision
