We are seeking an experienced and inspiring Head of Religious Studies to join our thriving school community. You will lead a supportive department delivering Religious Studies across Key Stages 3 to 5.
About the Role:
• Lead and develop our established Religious Studies curriculum from Year 7 through to KS5, including GCSE and our statutory commitments KS3 to KS5
• Guide a dedicated team of Religious Studies colleagues through line management and professional development
• Oversee assessment, monitoring and intervention strategies across the department
• Drive engagement through extra-curricular activities
What we are looking for:
• Proven track record of excellent classroom practice
• Strong subject knowledge across Religious Studies
• Experience of raising achievement at GCSE and A-Level
• Ability to inspire and support colleagues
• Commitment to inclusive education
Key tasks:
• To ensure there is effective teaching and learning in the Religious Studies department.
• To ensure the effective delivery of the Religious Studies curriculum across KS3, KS4 (including GCSE) and KS5, meeting our statutory obligations.
• To ensure the effective delivery of the GCSE, and A Level should the course run.
• To be responsible for the co-ordination, organisation and administration of the Religious Studies department.
• To make full contribution to the life of the school.
Experience:
• To have experience of working effectively within a team and playing a motivating role
• To have experience of teaching Religious Studies at KS3 and either KS4 or KS5
• To have teaching experience in a culturally diverse secondary school
• To have experience of implementing teaching interventions and evaluating their effectiveness
• To have experience of taking a lead role in departmental initiatives
Qualifications and Training:
• To have a degree in Religious Studies or a related subject
• To be a qualified Religious Studies teacher (PGCE or equivalent) with QTS
• To have a good standard of general education including GCSE Maths and English
Knowledge / Skills:
• To understand the requirements of the National Curriculum for Religious Studies GCSE and A levels
• To have an awareness of relevant health and safety regulations and policies
• To have good ICT skills
• To have excellent communication and literacy skills (both oral and in writing) – the ability to make points clearly and confidently, providing information and advice in accurate spoken English, and able to understand the views of others
• The ability to prioritise own time, work under pressure and meet deadlines with a sense of balance and perspective
