Along with the theatre pharmacist, they will be the point of contact for any issues relating to medicines in theatres. The postholder will be responsible for delivering a high standard of clinical care to patients through the provision of a safe and effective clinical medicines optimisation service. Work is managed by the individual. They will provide comprehensive technical support to all members of the department in the provision of a dispensary service.
The postholder will ensure the timely and efficient delivery of requests for pharmaceutical products across the Trust by dispensing and issuing prescriptions, signed orders, and controlled drugs orders, establishing and maintaining a communication link between pharmacy and the wards served. They will provide a ward-based Pharmacy Technician service to designated wards, which includes medicines reconciliation of newly admitted patients, assessment of patients' own drugs, overseeing the ordering of medication, and coordinating the supply of discharge medication. They will counsel patients on the routine use of their medicines, providing specific information on any special requirements to ensure patients understand their discharge medication.
The postholder will act as an Accredited Checking Technician under a nationally recognised accuracy checking technician framework, performing a final accuracy check on dispensed items against prescriptions and requisitions, and demonstrating continuous competency in checking accurately and safely. They will supervise student pharmacy technicians, pharmacy support workers, dispensers, and trainees in the department and across all wards.
They will liaise with pharmacists and a multi-disciplinary team to ensure a proficient and comprehensive medicines management service to all patients and staff across the integrated care system, supporting both primary and secondary care.
